‘My #9’ is the debut album by ‘Kippysmuse’. This album has been recorded over various sessions at Millbank Studios (Ballinderry, Co.Antrim) and at home (Holywood, Co.Down). The sessions at Millbank have been engineered and recorded by Michael Mormecha (Mojo Fury, Malojian). Recordings began way back, mid 2014, soon after the launch of my solo EP, Never Ending Loop.
What was planned to be EP #2 eventually transpired to be a much greater project. Recording sessions continued, tracking new songs as I wrote them, usually refining them at live acoustic gigs in Belfast. After some very productive sessions this year, ‘My #9’ is now an album! With your help we can turn this into a physical product. If you back this project I am offering a variety of rewards; all of which will be acknowledged by name in the album credits. Rewards start from digital only downloads, to physical CDs, signed lyrics, original works in progress sheets, one to one song writing workshops, gig bookings, house concerts, song and video sponsorships – you can find the reward package tailored for you.
What you are funding?
So far I have funded the creation of this record by myself. I have calculated all the remaining costs and set my minimum target at £2,000. Anything beyond that means I could make more music videos and get help to promote the release. Most of this album has been tracked / recorded already, however half of the record still needs mixing. To get the best possible mix I am using the best engineers I can work with. The album will then require high quality mastering. I have been working with mastering engineer Pete Maher, whose clients include acts like The Rolling Stones, U2, The Killers, Jack White, Noel Gallagher. You will be funding these production costs, as well as themed graphic design for an 8 page lyric booklet, including original artwork and photography. After this process there will be a limited edition print run of CDs, replicated from a glass master disc; you'll be funding the manufacturing of the actual physical product. This will ensure that you will receive an album made to the highest of standards.
The 2014 ‘Never Ending Loop’ (Kris D Marsden) gained strong airplay in Ireland and was very well received by critics alike:
'Marsden’s work stands out against the myriad of singer-songwriters out there trying to be smooth and wistful; this is downright naztee...' (Chordblossom.com)
'There are no plastic emotions here…' (Encore NI)
'The sound is like Johnny Cash playing guitar with Chris Martin of Coldplay on vocals, and occasionally Fleetwood Mac come along to jam… If this song is the standard of music then I have very high hopes for the quality of Kris Marsden’s forthcoming album “My #9”...' (GigginNI.com)
I raised awareness for mental health issues, working with charities, such as Aware Defeat Depression upon the EP release. The title track itself examines the horrors of OCD. I received a lot of kind messages from people far and wide, who had listened to the song and could identify closely with what I was trying to say.
That alone is the reason why I continue to write and play songs.
Risks and challenges
From previous releases I know that going over budget is something that happens all too easily. I have kept the £2k target as low as possible to ensure I can produce a unique album of the very highest quality, yet still having an achievable goal. This is my first experience of crowd funding. Needless to say I’m somewhat nervous! Thank you for reading this and watching the video. Hopefully you can be part of this journey.
Let’s bring this project to life! x
