Help us fund our very first collection that will be featured in this year's West 18th Street Fashion Show!
We have been selected as a collaborative design team for this year's West 18th Street Fashion Show, Gilded Summer. This free event is on June 8th and will be held outdoors in Kansas City's Crossroads Arts District. It is one of the biggest public events that happens in this area and we are so excited to be able to participate as first time designers. The idea for this collaborative project is to create garments from silk-screened yardage. Tessa will be printing the patterns, while Hannah will be in charge of garment construction. Check out the West 18th Street Fashion Show website here.
The collection will highlight and celebrate the extravagant decoration of textiles that occur in times of extreme wealth, like the 19th century’s Gilded Age. We will focus the garments’ design around hand printed and dyed fabrics, combining and layering patterns on each look. The patterns will combine our interests in feminine imagery and icons that could be associated with the upper class of hierarchical cultures, such as the Greek Meander, Greek columns, and symbols used in Egyptian beading and printing. Our girly and fun color palette often serves to sugarcoat darker themes throughout our studio work. The outfits will consist of interchangeable summer pieces including crop tops, skirts, leotards, and sheer cover-ups. Unfortunately we are not allowed to give any sneak peeks of the work before the models hit the runway on June 8th. However, feel free to check out our personal artist websites to get an idea of what we do!
In order to make this collection look great for the runway, we will need funding for supplies such as silk-screens, inks and dyes, fabric, closures, sewing notions, and materials for accessories. Any contributions are appreciated in helping us fulfill our vision for this line!!
We have gathered our models and started constructing garments, but are running into some financial obstacles. With your help we will be able to follow through with our vision for this line. We truly appreciate any amount of donation and want to thank you for taking the time to watch our Kickstarter!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Since this is our first fashion show, we know will have surprises and challenges along the way. We are seeing this opportunity as a great chance to get out of our comfort zones and push our work in new directions. But mainly, the deadline is coming up soon!! As full time students, our big challenge is funding the project in such a short amount of time, and we fully appreciate any support.
