About

In Anno Domini 1666 players control competing bands - featuring the protagonists of Sienkiewicz’s Trilogy and the musketeers from the novels of Alexander Dumas. Consisting of between 5 and 12 models each, these bands try to achieve objectives presented to them by one of many scenarios. These objectives include overcoming the enemy in combat, recovering a letter, escorting a hostage, or a chase. Unlike other games, relying on brute force may not be enough to achieve victory. Often, the imposing might of Longinus Podbipięta or D’Artagnan’s unrivaled fencing skills may prove less effective than Zagłoba’s quick wits and silver tongue. Depending on the chosen scenario and the number of characters involved, the game may take from 30 to 120 minutes.

You may wonder why some stretch goals are unlocked even if the amount pledged is too low. The reason is we are conducting a simultaneous campaign on the Polish crowdfunding platform - Wspieram.to. Both campaigns have the exact same goals and the amounts pledged are pooled together for unlocking stretch goals.

By clicking HERE you may check how much money is pledged on both platforms. Page is refreshed every 30 seconds.

What sets it apart from other games is the replacement of dice with decks of custom cards, which may be played either from the player’s hand, or randomly from the deck. Even if capricious fate turns its back on you, there are ways (even if limited) to influence the outcome of a test. Some skills (notably Zagłoba’s famous antics) may affect the composition of a player’s hand. We especially hope you enjoy our approach to portraying fencing duels. We are historical reenactors ourselves, and we wove our own experiences into the gameplay to come up with a combat system that is both fun and realistic.

Below you will find the rules of the game. Please note: the rulebook is not final yet. There are surely errors to be found and we will do our best to correct them as they come up

As you may have noticed, the rules do not include the scenarios, or the rules for building the bands. These will be found in the playbook. Anno Domini 1666 features two types of scenarios. One is Adventure: the focus is on fulfilling the objectives, and building the bands is streamlined so that players are not overwhelmed and can get into the action faster. The other is Battle, closer in spirit to miniature wargames. Destroying the enemy comes to the fore, players have unrestricted access to all the characters, and may tailor their bands to the preferred playstyle.

If you don’t feel like reading the rulebook right now, and would rather watch a video explaining the rules instead, you’ll be pleased to know we’ve come up with exactly that:

You already know what to expect from our rules. It's time to look closer on the content of the base game box

Note: the miniatures included in Anno Domini 1666 are plastic and come assembled and ready to play right out of the box. They are 28 mm scale. We have provided the option of ordering metal cast miniatures for gamers who prefer them. Please pick your pledges and rewards carefully! All metal miniatures require assembly.

Below you can see an example of real model - on the left plastic model (production sample from a factory) on the right metal model undercoated gray.

The Wargamer's team are experts in battle games. Not only do we know perfectly well what we do, but we also love our work. So far you could know us as publisher of the game "By Fire and Sword: Historical Wargame".

"By Fire and Sword" is a realistic, playable and very dynamic wargame which recreates the wars fought by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Turkey, Muscovy, Sweden, Crimean Khanate and the Cossacks during the second part of 17th century. The game has already had two extensions added, which bring into play the following nations: Brandenburg and Prussia, the Holy Roman Empire of Austria, Transylvania, Royal City of Gdansk and Duchy of Courland and Semigalia. Even if you have not heard about "By Fire and Sword", you will certainly have seen the artwork of Mariusz Kozik, which is on the cover of the main rulebook for the game see above) - it is undoubtedly the most popular image of winged hussars on the Internet :-)

We're also creators of Hot and Dangerous, line of pin-up style miniatures wearing uniforms of the most iconic units. Miniatures are available in two scales 54 mm - dedicated to painters and collectors, and 28 mm - dedicated to wargamers.

Shipping will be charged after the Kickstarter campaign concludes. You will be sent a survey where you will fill in your shipping address. Our pledge manager will use your shipping address to calculate and charge you for shipping your reward. Following is a list of rough estimates for shipping a standard game package. Keep in mind these are just estimates, and costs may rise based on weight increases from unlocked stretch goals and any optional buys you choose.

REFUND POLICY

We can refund you within 14 days of the campaign’s end, fees included. After that, we have a policy of no questions asked, though that’s minus Kickstarter and payment processing fees (which we can’t get back from them after 14 days). However, if we’ve begun packaging your pledge for shipment (usually 4 to 6 weeks before the actual shipping date), no refunds are possible. If a component cannot be delivered AT ALL, we refund that completely, including fees.

Risks and challenges

Anno Domini 1666 is a game for discerning gamers, who expect the absolute highest possible quality product. We are dedicated to delivering exactly that.

The paper and cardboard components of the game will be printed in Poland by a well-known and reliable printer. This may not be the cheapest way to go, but it allows hands-on quality control and avoids a long shipping time compared to printing overseas.

Anno Domini 1666 also features top notch miniatures. It is our first game with plastic models, so we had to make sure our exquisite 3D renders do not lose any detail when converted to plastic (Metal casting, on the other hand, we have mastered by now.). Anno Domini 1666 miniatures will be manufactured by the same company that make the miniatures for the biggest companies in the market. We hope this is enough of a recommendation. Still, we went the extra mile to be absolutely sure about their quality. We had a sample cast made to see the models for ourselves. The plastic figures you may have seen at events and the ones you can see on this page, are exactly the same as the ones that will be included in the game. We believe their quality is as good as it gets and you’d be hard pressed to find better looking board game miniatures. The only thing that turned out different to what we’d like is their colour - they will be gray.

Product quality is just one part of the story, however. Crowdfunding campaigns are always subject to delays. Will this happen to Anno Domini 1666? We believe not. This is our fifth campaign and we are positive this one is the best prepared one. The previous four have taught us a lot, and practice makes perfect, as the saying goes.

The game itself, as far as gameplay mechanics are concerned, only needs polishing and perfecting the rules that are already there, rather than coming up with new things. Game art is also mostly done. The most time-consuming part will be manufacturing the miniatures. Bearing that in mind, we’ve doubled our sculpting efforts. All of the miniatures from the base game, and most of the stretch goals and add-ons, have already been sculpted, so we can begin production as soon as we receive the funds. While the first casts are being made, we will finish sculpting the remaining models and forward them to manufacturing without disrupting the workflow. Our suppliers assure us they will be able to deliver on time, and considering how fast they came up with the sample cast we have no reason to doubt them
