Hang gliding is the ultimate realization of one of man’s oldest dreams, true bird like flight. No cockpit, no engines, no mechanical controls, just you, the wing and the air. This beautiful pastime has brought immeasurable joy to thousands of people that have been able to realize their lifelong dream of flight. Dreaming Awake is a web series that aims to showcase this by highlighting the unique people and places that make up hang gliding today. Hang gliders are colorful, elegant aircraft that operate in some of the most beautiful, natural environments in the world. This deserves documentation with a very high level of production quality, utilizing only high quality cinematic cameras and advanced stabilized aerial camera platforms. GoPros are excellent cameras for the money and ease of use, but we strive for something greater than your average youtube gopro flick.
Dreaming Awake The Web Series Trailer

The Next Three Episodes Are:
Dreaming Awake at Fort Funston (90% complete) - Fort Funston is a coastal cliff site located in San Francisco California. The prevailing sea breeze provides smooth, consistent lift and the dramatic cliff face makes for breathtaking views of the California coast line. This episode primarily features the piloting talents of Wills Wing factory pilot Dustin Martin as well as many other local regulars. It’s a fun, high energy short film that is sure to impress! Run time approximately 9 minutes. This episode will be finished and released by the time we reach our funding goal!
Dreaming Awake at The Wallaby Ranch (50% complete) - This episode features one of my favorite places in the world, the magical flat land escape known as the Wallaby Ranch in Florida. This is also very close to my heart as I was able to arrange for a tandem flight for grandparents. My grandfather passed away shortly after filming and this was the last time I saw him. This film is a tad more mellow and personal featuring interviews Wallaby Ranch owner Malcolm Jones and my very own Grandmother Jo Anne Aldrich! But don’t worry, we’ve still got some awesome footage of pilots Ryan Voight and Wolfgang Siess. This episode will be release on June 1st.
Dreaming Awake: Building Dreams (Pre-production) - This is a totally new film we are currently writing. This is the story of Steve Pearson, president and chief engineer at Wills Wing and his journey to create the perfect, high performance hang glider. Unlike other Dreaming Awake films, that have been mostly action/flying footage, this will be a character driven story, told with a “cinematic” feel. We will begin shooting in June and are aiming for a release by the end of July.
The funds raised will go toward post production costs for the next two episodes and full production costs for the third episode.

Risks and challenges
We wouldn't be doing this if it was easy! Film making isn't our full time job (yet?) so there are always "life things" that get in the way and slow down progress. However, having the support of the Kickstarter and free flight communities, as well as funding, will keep this project on track. We have got the first episode mostly finished and the second episode started to help reduce YOUR risk and get quality content out as soon as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
