Remix Notebooks (Canceled)
Society of Design overstock event posters are being upcycled into six-pack collections of unique softcover notebooks.
Upcycling vs. Recycling
Please note: we have a finite number of posters for this project - we will not be reprinting any of the posters. If successfully funded, this will be a limited edition run of notebooks.
Society of Design (societyofdesign.org) has hosted dozens of incredibly talented guest speakers over the years - graphic designers, architects, photographers, illustrators, copywriters, etc.
Full list of speakers: societyofdesign.org/events.html
We were on our way to the recycling center with approximately 1,000 overstock event posters when we realized we could upcycle the posters into notebook covers.
The pink (PMS Rhodamine Red), black, and white color scheme has been used on all the posters so the mix-and-match nature of this project works well.
The Paper & Printing
The posters are all 18"x24" and each one yields 8 notebook covers for 3.5"x5.5" finished notebooks. The paper stock for the posters is either Mohawk or Neenah (65#, 80#, 90#, or 100# cover) - both companies were incredibly supportive of the non-profit's guest speaker series - and the printing (offset or silkscreen) was produced by top-tier print shops. Each finished notebook will be saddle-stitched with 40 blank, white interior pages.
Each poster will be trimmed down to yield eight notebook covers. The exact trim area for each poster will be individually determined, depending on the design composition.
A sampling of event posters is shown below.
Please note: the majority of the posters were not designed by the guest speakers. Society of Design members and Go Welsh staff were responsible for most of the poster designs.
The Look & Feel
We've upcycled event posters in the past to help dress an otherwise bland hallway space at one of the event venues. Event attendees expressed great interest in he mix-and-match visual texture of the upcycled event posters.
Risks and challenges
We have the posters ready to go. Once the interior paper stock is in hand we'll be stitching, trimming, and corner rounding the notebooks and preparing for shipment. We've produced similar notebook projects in the past and feel confident we'll be shipping completed notebooks in September (assuming the project reaches its funding goal).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
