Slayers of Arkaeus is your classic tabletop role-playing game, but with a few new twists.
First, Slayers of Arkaeus does not have hit points. You soak up minor bumps and scratches with no need to track them. You also have three points of vigor for more major hits. After that, you take actual wounds, such as bleeding, concussions, missing teeth or eye, chopped off leg or even decapitation.
This dynamic leads to the second major difference with Slayers of Arkaeus, which is that it plays as a very gritty and violent game. This is combined with a unique dark fantasy setting with a richly developed history and world setting.
To match this feel, your core attributes in the game spell out the acronym BRUTAL for Brawn, Reflexes, Unbreakable, Thought, Allure, and Luck.
The L in brutal stands for Luck, and it is what separates player characters (also called slayers) from most everything else. Slayers are fated to become legendary heroes (or anti-heroes), so they are favored by more survivability and a greater chance of succeeding on tasks that are important to them. Each gaming session, every player gets a number of tokens to use equal to their luck score. They can use a token to roll an extra ten-sided die on a challenge or add a flat +1.
Luck points also serve as something similar to "lives'. If ever a PC would be slain (usually from a wound such as decapitation or eviscerated), they instead permanently burn a luck point to cheat death. This makes their luck score one lower, but they can continue to fight another day!
When making a character you can choose from ten playable races, roll or choose from 100 complications, and have complete control of your leveling up with hundreds of advances and spells to choose from.
Slayers of Arkaeus also uses an innovative dice mechanic based on poker. All rolls other than damage are made using ten-sided dice (d10s, usually three of them). However, the way you add up your total is a little unique. If you get three numbers that aren't continuous or matching, you just take the highest of the three. However, if you get two or three matching numbers you get to add those together. Similarly, if you get two or three numbers that are sequential, you can add all of them together. This makes amazing feats possible in the game, so even that feeble wizard has a chance of swimming the raging river or the Dwarf fighter has a chance of convincing the king to aid his cause. And finally, using luck points for a particularly important roll can make heroic success even more likely.
Dozens of monsters and NPCs, as well as simple rules for making your own, are included.
The game is completed, but this kickstarter is being done to fund a small print run, some additional artwork, a final copy editing, and to gauge interest for this and similar projects.

STRETCH GOAL 1 $600 (REACHED): Guide to the world of Arkaeus
This goal, which will be included as an additional chapter in all copies at no extra cost, includes a detailed world history, descriptions of all the major cities of the world, several powerful NPC leaders, and my take on a system of other dimensions (e.g. heaven, hell, elemental planes), as well as a new legendary spell that lets you get to them!
STRETCH GOAL 2 $700 (REACHED): Mounted fighting
This goal includes a chain of 4 mounted fighting advances, allowing players to create noble knights or vicious horse-archers as characters. Also included are 2 variant mounts in addition to the standard warhorse, and a human regional advance that lets you start the mounted fighting chain of advances for free!
STRETCH GOAL 3 $800 (REACHED): Elf & Wizard power
This goal includes a total of 6 advances. Two are just+ for elves (either regular or grey) and are meant to capture their supernatural agility and proclivity for masterful swordsmanship. The other 4 are just for wizards and allow them to boost the power of their spells, either by adding to the Target Number an opponent must reach to resist the effect or adding to the total damage!
STRETCH GOAL 4 $900 (REACHED): Monster multiplier
For this goal I will add 5 more monsters to the collection of creatures already included. I'll also add several new abilities to the table of special abilities for generating new monsters, allowing for more variability and some particularly powerful abilities!
STRETCH GOAL 5 $1,000 (REACHED): NPC Gallery
This goal will include 10 new NPCs of various power levels and races, added to the already extensive set of NPCs. Any requests for specific race/class combinations or archetypes from backers will also be accommodated if at all possible!
Note: Races are Dhampir, Dwarf, Elf, Half-elf, Grey Elf, Human, Orcman, Felinid, Saurian, and Monkeyfolk
Classes are rogue, warrior, or wizard
And the only restriction is that Dwarves cannot be wizards
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges to the project being completed are minimal, since the game is essentially done and in a playable state already.
Delay issues may arise with art providers or printers, but if that is the case I will seek different providers in order to get all rewards to supporters in as timely a manner as possible
