We've reached our funding goal of $20,000 and want to say THANK YOU so much! We feel incredibly blessed and humbled to be on this journey with all of you. We now have a stretch goal of $5,000 and if we reach $25,000, we will be able to add our GSF "littles line" to the Spring collection. Who better to represent children being set free from injustice than a child themselves! We've always had a heart for adding kids tees, beanies and a few other fun items to our collection but had to start small. Because you guys are so amazing and have helped us reach our goal, we can now work towards this stretch goal but we have to move fast because the Kickstarter ends in less than 32 hours. We've raised nearly $22,000 so far (thank you again!!) so that means we only have $3000 to go! Here are a few designs we've been working on to get you excited!

We design timeless garments that will last. Style over trends, quality over quantity.

The women who inspired our first collection.

Silk tee

In silk crepe, designed to be polished yet practical, you will love our classic tee. Designed in Ohio. Sourced in California and sewn in Michigan. All proceeds benefit survivors of exploitation and the programs that help them flourish.

Color options: white, cream and black

Cape

Our hooded cape is crafted with alpaca wool. This is softer and sturdier than cashmere and lighter than sheep's wool. Alpaca fleece is a luxurious commodity that produces warm, silky, durable and feather-light garments. Designed in Ohio, sourced in Peru and sewn in Nepal by survivors of exploitation. At this time, we are offering this style in the three solid colors below.

Color options: beige, heather and jet

"Sonnet" Halter

In a silhouette slimming wrap style, this basic essential tank is made of 100% polyester and drapes beautifully. Inspired and named after my dearest friend in Africa, designed in New York, sourced in California and sewn in Michigan. All proceeds benefit survivors of exploitation and the programs that help them flourish.

Tunic

A light and airy button-down, crafted in chambray weave and a cotton poplin. The perfect go to piece with impeccable front and back seam detail for a long and lean fit. Wear tucked into your favorite jeans or out with leggings. Designed in Ohio, sourced and sewn in Cambodia by survivors of human trafficking.

"Isabel" Fedora

A classic wool hat with leather band to transform your favorite T-shirt and jeans into a stylish luxe look. Inspired and named after my dear friend in Africa who challenged me to follow God's call in the fields of Mohambe. 100% wool, sourced and made in the USA. All proceeds benefit survivors of exploitation and the programs that help them flourish.

Color options: camel and black

 "Angelina" blouse

Designed to be classic and feminine, our v-neck is crafted with thick, heavyweight silk crepe to stand the test of time. Inspired and named after a little orphan girl I met in Chegue Africa, designed in Ohio, sourced and sewn in Nepal by survivors of exploitation.

HOW TO MEASURE

Bust

Measure under your arms at the fuller part of your bust. Keep tape level across your shoulder blades.

Natural Waist

Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape comfortably loose.

Drop Waist

Measure around your body 1 1/2" below your natural waist.

Hips

Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips.

Girl Set Free is an ethical fashion brand that helps empower survivors of injustice through design and micro-enterprise opportunity. Without options for income, many of the woman and girls who are rescued are unable to leave their life of enslavement, even when they want to. That is where we come in. We make a difference in some of the worlds most vulnerable communities by developing artisan businesses through fair trade. We have garment makers in Nepal and Cambodia providing them sustainable fair trade wages and developing relationships to build two sewing centers in the next two years. We've also partnered with artisans in India and Italy. This is where we hope to source and sew our leather bags and batik scarves for our holiday collection. We honor the traditional artisan techniques while providing a classic garment that every woman will love. Style over trends, rooted in the survivors powerful stories. It starts with fashion, but it ends with freedom, and freedom is always worth it.

The fashion industry is a 3 trillion dollar a year business and only two percent of apparel companies source from suppliers that pay their workers a fair and living wage. The decisions we make in our day to day lives directly affect the lives of people in distant places. Fair trade is an approach to business and to development based on dialogue, transparency, and respect that seeks to create greater equity in the international trading system. It is a growing international movement ensuring that buyers and producers engage in ethical trade relationships that allow both parties to celebrate their human dignity. Fair trade attempts to remedy some of the injustices propounded by free trade by focusing on trading with poor and marginalized producer groups, helping them develop skills and sustainable livelihoods through trading relationships. We are dedicated to be a fair trade organization and pride ourselves in the relationships that are built because of it.

Jeremy and Amy Kratzer founded Girl Set Free, Inc after a life changing trip to Africa. Together the Kratzer’s have carried their passion for missions and global outreach all over the world. They've developed artisan businesses through fair trade and are empowering women to flourish and grow where God plants them in their own communities. They are advocating for justice and helping to educate and reconnect the consumer to the people who make their clothing. They want to show, through human stories, the positive difference our actions can make in the lives of others. They have partners in Cambodia, India, Nepal and Italy with garment makers in two of the four countries providing them sustainable fair trade wages. They have two daughters, Hannah and Hope who helped design their {very soft} Kickstarter tees seen below. These are "limited edition" Kickstarter tees that are sourced and sewn by our beautiful artisans in Nepal.

If you are looking to gift GSF collection to your family and friends, we are more than happy to send you a printable pdf gift card representing the product you have purchased. Unfortunately, our products will not ship by the holidays this year.

Up until this point, we’ve been family funded. We could have taken a traditional approach and secured small business loans but felt crowd funding was a better way to gauge pre-sales and interest as well as mitigate the financial risks where possible. We are called to be good stewards and that is why we have chosen to crowd fund. Kickstarter will help us fund the production of our first Spring line. We only receive our support money if we fully fund. I quit my corporate job three years ago so I could dedicate the appropriate amount of time that was needed to run an organization like this. I have worked hard on building relationships with our global partners, designing garments that will last, ethical sourcing and manufacturing. I've relentlessly followed the foot print of our sourcing and have been dedicated to ensuring that all our textiles are slave free. We dream of lives being changed from the purchase of our garments. We believe it takes many people doing little things with great love to make a difference. Kickstarter is a way to make this dream possible. Thank you so much for considering supporting Girl Set Free, Inc.

If you are new to Kickstarter - this is how it works: first you choose a reward option at the top right of the page. Then, once the campaign ends (early December) and if we are successfully funded, your card is charged and we send out an official backer reward survey to everyone. That's where you will tell us your size and clothing selections, where to ship, etc. It's that easy! Free shipping within the United States and Canada is included in the rewards.

  • December 2015 - project funded / manufacturing preparations
  • January 2016 - production begins
  • February 2016 - production finalized / quality control
  • March 2016 - fulfillment
  • April 2016 - shipping (just in time for Spring)

Are you a writer looking to share our story?

We would be so grateful if you would help us spread the word. Email us at girlsetfreeinc@gmail.com and in the memo line write "Press Kit". You will receive high resolution images and more info.

Thank you for supporting Girl Set Free. It starts with fashion, but it ends with freedom, and freedom is always worth it.

Risks and challenges

After spending months perfecting our design, sourcing fabric, selecting trims, and testing samples, we have secured production with two reputable manufacturers. We’ve been working with our factories to mitigate any unforeseeable risks, however we do know that like the weather, life can be unpredictable! We believe in transparency, and will be sure to communicate any challenges or delays in manufacturing or shipments
