What is the Gaslamp?
Gaslamp Social Games Cafe will be what we've come to call a "board game cafe." A comfortable spot to hang out, play games, and enjoy our amazing coffee and snacks while you spend time with friends new and old.
Our focus is on creating a comfortable and inviting environment, and on wonderful coffee and espresso, all while bringing new and old players together with the intent of building a strong community. Part of being a board game cafe means that, beyond providing the tastiest coffee and espresso to our customers, we'll have an open library of games available for public use. In addition, we will have a large selection of new and unique games available for purchase.
We will also run tournaments and organized play events, and we'll have game nights where anyone can join in, learn a new game, and maybe make some new friends in the process. We're pretty sure you're gonna love it.
Our deadline for opening is August 1st, 2012.
Where's the money going?
Where isn't it going? We need to obtain the caliber of supplies and equipment that will allow us to create the quality espresso and coffee that our customers deserve. We will need to pay for the licensing and other paperwork so we can open. We will also use the money gathered right here on Kickstarter to purchase the materials we need to put the best product in our customers' hands, and give our customers the greatest possible experience in our shop.
Our future with Kickstarter:
We love Kickstarter. We will continue to support the Kickstarter community by allocating a portion of the shop's profits to investing in projects we'd like to see succeed. By doing this, we'll be able to give back to a community that has already been so supportive of us, while bringing new and exciting indie games into our store for others to discover and enjoy.

We are a married couple who have fallen madly in love with all things game-related. Our board game collection has overrun its closet and threatens to swallow the bedroom. We run three weekly games of Dungeons & Dragons between the two of us, and are already writing story lines for several more once we move. We've been known to spend hours alphabetizing our Magic cards. We own more dice than socks.
We each have several years' experience in the coffee world, both serving as coffee-slingers for a number of local shops including La Dolce Vita, the CSU Coffee Cart, Jilly Bean Java, Gib's NY Bagels, and most recently at Truman's Coffeehouse - where poor Truman has to hear "well, when I run MY shop..." on a nearly daily basis. Thanks, Truman - we love you. ;)
In addition to our coffee and gaming habits, we have also built our own company from the ground up before. In 2007 we started Muddy Water Blues, a dance and event-planning company that held weekly dances and threw workshops every few months or so for the swing and blues dance community in Fort Collins. Although we have had to say goodbye to the dancing world, the company we built still runs today under the name Indigo Blues, and their dance nights regularly attract 100 or more participants.
We live in Fort Collins, CO. at the moment. However, we are currently packing for our move. We have fallen in love with the East Seattle area and June 1st we leave for Bellevue, WA.
Thank you for taking the time to check out our project, and let's play soon. :)
Even though we're primarily a game store, we are aware of how much Washington loves its coffee. We're looking forward to sharing Jackie's Java with everyone - this is hands-down the best coffee we've ever had, and we think you'll agree.
Are you one of the Fort Collins folks we're leaving behind? Go to Haunted Game Cafe and talk to Gary - it's his fault we got the idea in the first place. (Thanks, Gary!)
One of the things we're going to do with our store is give back to Kickstarter by funding and carrying games we find here. So, naturally, we are excited to be a part of Kicking It Forward.
