(November 18th, 2015) - We are relaunching BrilliAnts in the upcoming days (as soon as possible) with a greatly reduced price and shipping costs (around $15-20 reduction in total), reduced funding goal, and modified Stretch Goals! We are relaunching the game to maximize the value for our backers, selling the game at the lowest cost possible for us. Check out our relaunch on Kickstarter, it should be up soon!
It's the end of the season and the Ant Queens try to establish their colony in a quiet forest where food is abundant.
BrilliAnts is a flexible game for gamers and families where you take control of an ant colony to help it prepare for the coming winter! But beware, not every colony has the same needs! You must gather the resources you need to survive the winter by fulfilling headquarters’ objectives while expanding your territory and influence over the forest. Be wary of the weather and the dreaded predators as you plan your next move to lead your colony to victory.
BrilliAnts can be played by 1-4 players, ages 8+, and a game lasts roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Also included in every copy are all the stretch goals we unlock during the campaign, which vary from additional cards to 60 miniatures!
- BrilliAnts is a game that is easy to understand, yet complex enough so to make it hard to master as multiple strategies are always opened to you.
- 4 levels of complexity in the rules enables you to adapt your game to who you're playing with, ranging from children-friendly rules to cutthroat rules for the more ruthless and competitive players (mirroring the world of insects)!
- An original Day/Night system regulating the movement of your ant workers (more on that system below).
IMPORTANT: We don't use a pledge manager, so make sure that all your pledges are made in full by December 11th!
If you want to add more than 1 copy to your pledge, select any $59 pledge and manually add $59 per additional copy that you want. Pay shipping only once!
So, 1 copy = $59; 2 copies = $118; 3 copies = $177 (+ shipping) !
A game of BrilliAnts is relatively simple to play, check out our Beta rules for more information. During your turn, 3 actions are opened to you:
- Move one of your ants
- Move a predator
- Give birth to a new ant
It's how and in which order you use them that matters. Perform these actions in accordance to your colony's objectives (known only to you), and amass the most victory points to win!
Working takes time, and when time passes, the day sets, night falls, and the weather changes! Each player can only move all of his ants once before the end of the day, and then again for the night.
To keep track of which ants have been played or not, the ant cardboard tiles (the 60 of them to be replaced with miniatures with a special base if we meet our stretch goal) feature a different art, depending on if it's day time or night time. Keep track of which ants have played or not by referring to their Day or Night art!
A French language version of the game will be available in stores, labelled Fourmidable (literally: Formidable ant).
Message to French speaking Backers:
Si vous désirez la version française du jeu, simplement choisir l'option "Fourmidable" lors de la sélection de votre contribution (La 2e contribution ou "pledge" à 59$). Les versions françaises seront envoyées par la poste séparément des vagues d'expédition des versions anglaises.
"A fantastic game, it's really solid. If you like Takenoko, you're definitely gonna like this one because it has a similar feel, but at the same time, it's very different. There are so many varieties of play, of things you can take out or add, that it can be different almost every time you play. I really enjoyed it, I hope you get a chance to check it out!"

Risks and challenges
The main challenge we face is that, although we received tips and tricks from veterans on boardgamegeek concerning shipping and fulfillment, this is still our first project. Thus, we are allocating a 9-months period to fully produce the game and deliver it to our backers. Any earlier delivery would be welcomed, but we are doing this to ensure that we give ourselves enough time to avoid potential setbacks.
We are working with Panda Games, a well known board game manufacturer, and hopefully this should help to alleviate the risks of undertaking a new project such as BrilliAnts. We are also aware that shipping worldwide is a very complicated process, and thus, with the help of articles by StoneMaier Games and other helpers on boardgamegeek, we will try and make it work as best as we can. Our box isn't small so that in itself will prove to be a challenge when fulfilling comes.
After all, the end goal is to bring the game to your door step, and our job is to make sure it does within the next 9 months, along with all the stretch goals. We also remain open to any suggestions or help on the matter!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
