About this project
Thanks to you this project became a success! You have no idea how happy you made me!
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
For those of you who ordered prints, I will send out a survey in the beginning of next year for you to choose which ones you like!
I have lived in Hanoi for some years. Photographing the street vendors became a little project of mine. I would spend hours on top of a couple of locations in Hanoi waiting for vendors to walk underneath the bridge. I once spend five ours on a location with no shots.
This project started my fascination for the women carrying their goods. They have no clue how beautiful their bicycles are, no idea they create little pieces of art every day.
The street vendors in Hanoi are often female migrants that spend most of their days trying to make profits on selling fruit, vegetables, snacks and other small items. In the book I will highlight the beauty of Hanoi's vendors with pictures. All of the pictures are taking from different locations in Hanoi.
There are two reasons I want to create "Vendors". For you to get an insight and more knowledge about the female migrants that color Hanoi and two it is my dream to create a beautiful book about a project that means so much to me.
Donating to this project is an opportunity to contribute to something really special first and foremost you are being given the chance to become part of something at its earliest stages.
Budget and costs
I am publishing at a minimum of 50 copies of a hard cover, full-color offset printed book. I am using a local printing company in Enschede. The base cost of the production and printing of the books, Kickstarter's fee, taxes and shipping costs taken into account I will need € 3700,- to make this project happen. I don't expect to make any money of this project.
Just to make clear, right now I don't have enough pictures to publish a book and I want to interview some of the vendors to give you a little bit more insight in their lives. I need to go back to Vietnam in order to do so. For you to support this project also means you are supporting a part of the trip to Vietnam. I made my budget to Vietnam very very tight. Please let me know if you have any questions or information that you would like to know and I will try my best to get you the answers!
This is the only time you will be able to get this book. That is, if it does not get picked up by a publisher due to an unforeseen success ;)
Thank you for your support and encouragement!
Risks and challenges
There are a few risks and challenges that this project might bring with.
As I mentioned, I have to go back to Vietnam to finish this project. If this project succeeds I am planning on going there end of March so the weather conditions are optimal. Yey it could rain during my time of shooting in Hanoi. Rain is not necessarily a bad thing though, it could give a nice effect to the photos and it does give the concrete a nice deep gray color which makes the colors of the bicycles pop even more. Some of the best images I collected so far are taken right after a big rain storm(like the vendor with the melons and oranges above). I have to admit, it can get pretty chilly waiting on some of the locations during the rain.. It has happened to me that I was literally stuck on a location because it was raining so much I couldn't go anywhere. Nor were there any vendors..
Depending on the amount of backers I will get, the shipping could be a slight problem. I plan to tackle that with being as organized as I possibly can. The shipping is partly included in the price.
If for example you want to A3 prints, you can change the pledge at the reward section from $20 to $40. Then send me a message that you did and I will make sure you will get the amount you like!
I will send out a survey in the beginning of next year. You can select the exact prints you like!
