Brite Bits are a wonderfully simple concept, miniature breakout boards for LEDs. Each Brite Bit has the color of the PCB match the color of the LED for easy identification. They are mounted sideways to the breadboard to reduce the footprint.
Regular LEDs can have thin flimsy leads that get all bent out of shape. While using LEDs, it is better to have a current limiting resistor to prevent burning out the LED. Together they use more breadboard space. Brite Bits puts all of this together in one package for simple handling and use.
The Brite Bits will be sold as DIY kits with five of the same colored LEDs, or as a combination of one each of the five different colors, red, yellow, green, blue, and white. The kits will include the LEDs, color matching PCBs, and header pins for assembly.
The resistors and LEDs will be surface mounted, but we will use the larger 1206 style for easier handling and soldering.
All board will be lead-free. The exact finish will be decided once we know how many board to manufacture.
Update Reward Changes
We had rewards for individual colors, but no one pledged for these. If you do want only one color, just say so in the survey at the end or e-mail us.
How to Pledge for Multiple Items
If you want more than one set, up to four sets, simply increase your bid to cover the extra sets. If you want five sets or more, then pledge at the Fiver or All the Colors level, and add any extras there. (Hint if you want four sets, buy the Fiver or All the Colors instead for less.)
We have a number of stretch goals:
1. $2,500 – Add a sixth LED color, to be announced.
2. $5,000 – Add a seventh LED color, to be announced.
3. $10,000 – Add a black board, for user combination, (board and pins only).
All pledges of $18 or more will automatically get a board added to their reward for each stretch goal we reach. So if you ordered all of the same color, you will get an extra board of that color. If you ordered All the Colors, then you will get the new color added for no extra charge.
Risks and challenges
The challenge will be to get lots of supporters. This project gets better with the more supporters to make the stretch goals possible.
The risk is with shipping and meeting a short delivery schedule. We will have lots of packages for order and ship.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
