The Contemporary Jazz Quintet (Hugh Steinmetz, Franz Beckerlee, Steffen Andersen, Bo Thrige and Niels Harrit) only released one album on Debut records in 1969, just before they went their separate ways, in other groups and projects. Hugh, Franz and Steffen had previously recorded "Action" with Sunny Murray on drums, also released on Debut, and both records are highly collectible these days.
According to the group themselves their Actions 1966-67 recordings are by far the best they have ever made, and we couldn't agree more! Niels Harrit's musical saw, not only makes the recording very unique - It also works extremely well in the context of TCJQ! The music has already been released on CD and digital, but we have decided to make this vinyl re-issue (if we can get our support) for several reasons:
1. We LOVE vinyl!
2. Franz Beckerlee's Jackson Pollock inspired Action painting does not belong on a CD cover, in belongs on a 12'' cover!
3. We like to document the history of Danish/Scandinavian free jazz, and the record will include a fold out with the full history of TCJQ including photos (several which hasn't previously been released) (Disclaimer: The liner notes will be in Danish!)
The record will be sold a little cheaper in this kickstarter, than the average retail price, and we apologise in advance for the extreme shipping costs internationally!
Please support the project and help us release known and unknown avantgarde gems on vinyl!

Risks and challenges
There is always a potential risk that the vinyl pressing gets delayed. However, this is our 8th release, and we have learned which pressing plants to use, and which NOT to use. For our latest releases; Lotte Anker and Nicolai Kaas Claesson, we have used CALYX mastering for the vinyl cutting, and RAND MUZIK for the production, and this seems to work just perfect. The quality is always in top, and they deliver on time!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
