“Fish Scaled and Stones Chipped”
©2012 WAV Media
A video documentary is being filmed about Vinalhaven, Maine. This video will combine history found in Sidney Winslow’s book “Fish Scales and Stone Chips” and diaries, with modern day life on Vinalhaven Island off the coast of Maine.
Sidney L. Winslow was my Grandfather.
As my grandfather wrote in his book, “someone should continue the history (of Vinalhaven) – and up to the present time, no local historical volume has made its appearance”. I also seek that outcome but in a modern day form of video. I also intend to make it as accurate as possible, and provide a historical view of people and events over the years.
It will be offered in DVD format and submitted to the Maine Public Broadcasting Network (MPBN) for air.
Lobstering on the island as it is today:
Here is some footage of a parade down Main Street on Vinalhaven in 1955. Recognize anyone? Maybe yourself?
Here's a picture found of my Great Great Grandfather David Coombs ("Days of Uncle Dave's Fish House") holding my father Colon Winslow.
