Hello! I am Richard from Mini Foam Studio, makers of the LCG Foam box insert, and I am excited to introduce you to our new Board Game box insert for Cosmic Encounter!
This box insert holds all the base game components with plenty of room for expansions - because we all know how important the expansions are for this game! The insert holds all the ships that come with the base game, and the finished product inserts will have additional bays for a sixth set of ships. The card bays are large enough to hold cards sleeved or un-sleeved, there are four special bays just for the planets, and the large bay in the center can hold tons of alien sheets.
I am taking this product to Kickstarter to raise the up-front money for tooling and the first production run. Our previous Kickstarter did not reach it's funding goal, but the interest generated proved promising enough for me to proceed with production, and since then the LCG inserts have been a big success!
I am hoping our new Cosmic Encounter inserts can reach an enthusiastic board gaming audience and help protect the game they love so much!
* I am also happy to note that both of our products are 100% Made in America *
As mentioned above, our Cosmic Encounter box insert holds all the components included in the base game, along with plenty of space for numerous expansions. You can tote around your entire collection safely in one box!
The inserts also come with adhesive on the bottom, a unique feature to our insert that allows you to fix the insert to the bottom of your box. This is permanent, but makes the insert much more firm and rigid should you prefer, and it will stay in place as you pack and unpack your game components. But of course, using the adhesive is completely optional; there is a liner covering the adhesive, so you don't have to use it if you don't want to permanently alter your box or insert.
Having a box insert for your components not only keeps everything safe for transit and storage, but it also speeds up the setup and breakdown processes. We believe our inserts are an inexpensive way to protect your components and help you get the most out of your gaming time.
Production Inserts and Timing
Production inserts will differ from the prototype insert shown in the video and pictures. The foam will be a 'charcoal' colored polyurethane (PU) foam, the same material used on our LCG inserts. However, the production Cosmic Encounter inserts will not have the black 0.25" thick base pad the LCG inserts have, it will only have a layer of adhesive and a liner on the bottom.
The prototype insert shown in the video was made on a prototyping laser by cutting multiple layers and adhering them together with a similar adhesive to the one that will come on the bottom of the production insert, but the production inserts will be one continuous, die-cut piece of foam.
I hope to have the Kickstarter run through the month of March and maybe a little into April; then assuming we reach our funding goal I will kick off the production run in April after the Kickstarter concludes. The manufacturer's lead time is 4-6 weeks from receiving the order, so I expect to receive shipment of the inserts by around the end of May. From then I can expect to start fulfilling orders in June. Please note, these are all estimates and are subject to change. But I have high confidence I will be fulfilling inserts by summertime.

Risks and challenges
This is our second Kickstarter, and the second product we offer to use these base materials. I have prototyped the part, so I do not anticipate fit to be an issue with the production inserts. I also have a very good relationship with the manufacturer, so I do not expect any surprises with the finished product cosmetically or with their delivery reliability.
Fulfillment could become delayed depending upon the amount of interest generated and the number of orders received, but there are various options for overcoming those issues; and honestly, those are some of the 'better' problems we could have!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
