We've already raised nearly $20,000 worth of sponsorship, acquired a venue, and are lining up artist and entertainers. NOW WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.
WHERE: Sculpture Park, Denver CO. WHEN: October 11th & 12th 2014
WHY: Upcycling - Prevents TONS of waste from ending up in our landfills. Encourages creativity. AND provides opportunity for artists and individuals to take a "waste" product and create objects of value from them. And PalletFest brings it all together for the world to see.
Feel proud knowing you've helped launch the Ultimate Upcycle Event. And enjoy the rewards we're offering for doing so.
WHO: Creating a festival requires a lot of work and a skilled team who can first put it together, and then, pull it off. That's why we're surrounding ourselves with numerous individuals and organizations that enable this to happen! First, our partnerships between the City of Denver Arts and Venues Department http://artsandvenuesdenver.com/ , Metro Denver's Habitat for Humanity ReStores www.habitatmetrodenver.org/restore/, APEX Movement http://www.apexmovement.com/ and SustainAbility http://www.sustainability-recycling.com/ are all providing us with a variety of resources, man power, entertainment and advertising capabilities. We have renowned artist and co-owner of Ventero OpenPress www.ventero.org/index2.html Randy Pijoan www.randypijoan.com/index.html Randy's skill has truly helped paint the picture of this event. He's designed our logo's flyers, posters and more. Randy's also designed for numerous festivals including the Taos Solar Fest as well as many Wide Spread Panic concerts.
And how bout this Kickstarter video folks? I agree, job well done - we have Lares Feliciano www.laresfeliciano.com to thank for it. Lares has produced a number of video's and is looking to expand into greater territory. She's wonderful and we couldn't have done this without her. If you've had a chance to explore our website www.palletfest.com we have Victoria Brunner to thank for it. Victoria has her MBA in Sustainable business and is currently creating the first year round garden program IN THE NATION for the Boys and Girls Club. She's a valued addition as she see's events like palletfest as a solution to some of our worlds problems and is therefore eagerly getting behind us to help make this a success. And let's not forget Kenny Fischer. As the founder of Upcycle Events Kenny has been working to put the people and the pieces together. Ultimately it's the people that make the difference and with this team we're off to a really good start!
LONG TERM GOALS:
As for Long term goals. PalletFest aims to become a National event. Using this Kickstarter campaign as well as final attendance and feedback will tell us how much interest and demand there is for a festival like this. If the support is there then you'll see us again next year. And as with any successful festival, the following years are sure to be better than the last.
If your one of the millions of people right now saying 'What's all this hype about Upcycling? How is it different from Recycling? And why in the world would I want to attend a festival about it?'
Recycle - To convert waste into a reusable material, often of lesser quality. Upcycle - To reuse discarded objects in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than it's original purpose.
In short, recycling requires lots of energy, whereas Upcycling simply requires imagination and creativity! You can Upcycle just about anything, whether it's pallets, plastic bottles, tires, old clothing, metals, glass....Materials like this that are so commonly thrown away can be utilized to not only create art but often functional art like a beautifully crafted table or clothing or in this case, a FESTIVAL!
We're about to launch the first ever PalletFest! There are a few other "recycled" arts Festivals out there but we're ready to call it as it really is and make the term Upcycle a new household name. Upcycling encourages creativity, enables us to make things that are fun and functional, and it also prevents tons of waste from ending up in landfills. A whole new art world is opening up through Upcycling. And PalletFest is looking to be at the forefront of this movement.
THE MAIN EVENT: SITES AND SOUNDS OF PALLETFEST.
PalletFest will be October 11th & 12th 2014. At Sculpture Park in front of the Denver Performing Arts Complex. It'll include numerous art and food vendors as well as a pallet maze, and a pallet amphitheater featuring live entertainment. One of the main attractions to the event will be our Live Pallet Throwdown: where teams will compete over this 2 day period to create some of the most amazing pallet art and furniture right before your eyes.
There will be an Upcycle runway fashion show. See fashion models hit the catwalk as they show off incredible, sophisticated, beautiful, one of a kind clothing and decor, all made from Upcycled materials. The fashion show will occur on Saturday night and happen along side our headlining band.
Along with that some of the more unique and exciting features will be our interactive expos. Things such as upcycled homes and gardens. A sustainable living area. And one of the Sickest Parkour and Free Running parks of it's kind, where you'll see athletes throwing themselves around in amazing fashion on an upcycled obstacle course.
For the handyman, hobbyists and DIYers your heads will be swimming with everything you'll see. Plus you'll get to enjoy our demonstrations and how too workshops which will cover a range of interests.
We believe our lives can be constructed and surrounded by upcycled works. Anyone rich or poor, young or old, and from any demographic can not only learn how to create something upcycled but can also figure out ways to provide for themselves in the process. It could be through building furniture to use or sell or by building an entire house. It can be through becoming an artist or by creating something that can actually solve problems. No matter who or where you are, you can Upcycle something to better your environment and your lives.
Risks and challenges
The greatest risk is that of Mother Nature herself. PalletFest WILL happen. Budget constraints may determine the size of the event, and in a worst case scenario delay the date. However nothing will stop us from putting it on. That being said, this will be an outdoor event so bad weather is our biggest concern. Knowing this, we're going to do our best, to plan for the worst.
Other challenges will be that of creating and implementing the overall layout of the event. We'll be using thousands of pallets in this process, so making sure it all works and it's all safe is top priority.
