After a nuclear holocaust, an eccentric scientist working for the military fights against a government plot for new world order. He battles dictators, soldiers, gangsters, zombies, mutants, and his own hedonism in order to restore society and freedom for the remaining citizens.
Creator's Edge Press has agreed to publish this comic after it's completed, if I successfully raise the money to fund it. It will also be submitted to Diamond and others for distribution in stores. If all goes well, the book should be finished by summer.
This book will be a full color 120 page graphic novel of the first volume of the series. This series is meant to be bright, colorful, vulgar, and energetic, with moments of drama and philosophy woven in among. There is a liberal use of slapstick and hammerspace and people surviving improbable explosions. It has been largely inspired by things like The Gorillaz, Fooly Cooly, Dead Leaves, and old-school punk music.
For a little background on this project, I am currently running it as a webcomic at warofthedogs.com, where I have posted the first couple of chapters. It has started to get a reader base, but even when I started planning it out I wanted to do it in a print format, because the pacing is better suited to be in a book rather than online.
If I get another 1000 dollars after meeting my goal, I will actually be able to print twice as many copies. If I can raise over 3,900 dollars, EVERYONE who contributed will receive a signed copy even if their reward did not initially include one. If I do NOT reach my goal, everyone who pledged will receive *complimentary* art depending on the amount they pledged.
Risks and challenges
Diamond may still refuse to distribute the book, it may not sell well, and it may not pass editing.
If Diamond refuses to distribute the book, I will promote it entirely on my own at conventions and online. If it does not sell well, I will try harder. If it does not pass editing, I will revise the book until it DOES pass editing.
Ultimately this is a fairly low-risk venture.
YES there will be international shipping for an extra 5 dollars on any pledge. The 20 dollar one says no, but if you select it and you live internationally, you may either get just the book and no sketch, or donate 25 and specifically request a sketch and an internationally shipped book as a reward and I will do my best to fill that.
