What started out as a "necessity is the father of invention" operation...then quickly grew into the small start-up you see.
Working out of my garage/workshop I've worked with local film makers here in Houston, Texas, aiming to offer a feature-packed stabilizer for the indie film maker.
The TALON uses the industry standard 15mm rails. Has 3/8" tapped holes for mounting quick connect camera mounts and a multitude of 1/4" tapped holes for configuring your auxiliary equipment onto the TALON.
Portability is prime...optimal

Experience and a mini-history:
The TALON is not my first creation in the camera stabilizer market. In 2009 I began developing a rough prototype to fit the need (see picture below).
With immediate interest from a well known film maker here in Houston (http://bullerproductions.com/) I took the initial concept and went back to the drawing board and developed a more durable device (see below)
There was still more creativity to be expressed so I went back to the drawing board and came up with a more user friendly model with a carry handle....(see below)
I knew there had to be a major revision, so I spent more time testing and tweaking designs and in mid 2011 I developed (see pic below)
The nuts and volts:
All funds raised on Kickstarter will go towards the purchase of the specialized equipment required to fabricate the TALON and it's components.
- Two (2) Tormach PCNC 1100 CNC Mills
- Appropriate tooling and ancillary equipment required for an automated fabrication process
- Inventory of raw T-6 aluminum bar/plate stock
- Inventory of Electro/Mechanical components utilized in the TALON
I have partnered up with Precision Powder Coating in Spring Texas (http://www.precisionpowder.net/) to handle all the ultra durable powder coating requirements.
In order to fabricate, and assemble the respective components my current facility here in Houston is sufficient: My 400sf garage.
It has two (2) 220volt outlets to power the CNC mills. Just like Bill Gates my company can be operated from my home in it's initial phase. Taking on rent/overhead from another facility is not needed nor desired at this point.
Per my HOA guidelines: I am permitted to operate a business from within my residence, provided it "does not detract from the exterior appearance, nor does it affect the community visually or with excessive sound levels."
Once the project has been funded and the amounts disbursed here's the timeline for the TALON production.
Day 1:Equipment ordered...delivery two weeks after order date
Day 14:Take delivery of all equipment ordered
Day 15-30: Set up, calibrate and perform test runs on machinery to production standards
Day 31: Begin first run production of TALONS
Day 35: Deliver
Risks and challenges
With production being completed here in the great state of Texas our risk of fabrication issues is greatly reduced. If we were to use an overseas production facility for our supply a logistics issue could always arise.
Our biggest challenge is dialing in the machinery to our specifications for 100% repeatability on every TALON.
My experience in the machine shop will expedite the learning curve using the new CNC equipment.
