Frequently Asked Questions
The "thank you" emails, the HD art pack, and the full alpha/beta will immediately be released to those who pledged to receive those rewards. Then, depending on the number of testers and how in-depth they are, hopefully I will release the game before the estimated delivery date in May. The more people playtest the game for balance and give their opinions, the better, and the quicker I can flesh out any kinks that might exist. Additionally, it will help with fine-tuning. The physical sprites will be worked on in my free time and I'll get them out as soon as I can.Last updated:
Sure it does! ATHOPS will run any old-school USB controller with no problem, and it also has support for an XBOX controller! Inside each download is a .text file that gives a full explanation of the buttons.Last updated:
This answer is coming from straight off the internet, and as I do not own a MAC myself, I cannot test it.
ATHOPS can be played only under the following conditions:
If you have a Mac, then there are several options for you to try. Note that these only work for Macs with Intel processors.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/ Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. Follow the instructions in the Boot Camp documentation regarding the installation of Boot Camp, creating a Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
6. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.

If it's a Linux computer:
Visit the WineHQ web page to download free software to get started. On the main page, click on the "Downloads" link. Then click on the link for your specific version of Linux, for example "Ubuntu" or "RedHat."
Follow the on-screen setup, and install directions for WineHQ. Each install will vary slightly since Linux operating systems follow their own installation processes.
Double-click on the installer file. Follow the on-screen directions to install. If the installer file does not launch, open a "Terminal Windows" and type in the file directory; for example "cd ~/Desktop" followed by "Wine fileinstall.exe" where "fileinstall.exe" is replaced by the file name.
Run the .exe file either by going to "Applications," then "Wine" followed by the "Programs menu," where you should be able to click on the file. Or open a terminal window and at the files directory, type "Wine filename.exe" where "filename.exe" is the name of the file you want to launch.

When the Kickstarter ends I'll be in contact with everyone who pledged to be a part of the creation process. I've already spoken with a couple of you and hopefully helped guide you through the process by giving you ideas regarding bookcases or naming the Cheshire soulstones. The NPC Quest/Weapon Creation will be similar.Last updated:
As the game progresses, yes, there is a love story between two of the main characters.
ATHOPS has multiple themes tied in with the main plot, displayed through the lens of character development: the bonds of love & family, revenge, self preservation, hope, and the will to survive, to name a few.
Early on, the young girl, Petra, witnesses the death of her mom and dad at the hands of one of the main bad guys. She vows revenge, and makes it her point in life to exact that revenge. As the story progresses and the cast learns more about the very serious threat to Astoria, Petra will begin to identify the cast as her "new family" and begins to self reflect that her reckless quest at revenge is no longer a "nothing to lose scenario" - she has a new "family" that loves her, looks after her, and truly cares for her well being. Petra will undergo a transformation... and her priorities may shift...Last updated:
Yes! I've already put thousands of hours into this game (3.5 years). I released the demo and advertised it as "3+ hours." The general feedback I've received from those that have completed the demo (overwhelmingly positive) say that it has taken them approximately 5-10 hours. The demo is just a fraction of the overall game and after you sail away from the port town of Cruxis (not accessible in the demo) the game will open up and allow for greater exploration with many more side quests and much more unknown. My brother played the alpha in its current state from start to finish and logged 58 hours.Last updated:
You've got two options, and I'd like to hear from you prior to playtesting. You can opt to play the game as a casual player who enjoys the alpha/beta and gives me your opinions as they come, or you can let me know if you'd like to be a hardcore playtester, and I'll even give you special credit in the game's ending credits. If you choose the latter, we'll be in constant contact and you'll receive a list of questions regarding simple things like your overall thoughts on game balance or game improvement, but you'll also be asked to try to BREAK the game: try to walk thru walls, try to advance the storyline out of sequence, try to skip certain quests and come back to them later and see if the NPC responses no longer make sense, stuff like that. I THINK I've already taken care of all of this, but having a dozen or so other people play the game like this will save me oodles of time - and help get the finished product out faster!Last updated:
I would love for this project to hit its goal or perhaps hit an extended goal. What can I do to help?
I'm glad you're enthusiastic about it. Share the demo with friends and tell friends to share with THEIR friends. Promote the game on social media via Twitter @GoldUniGaming and Facebook @GoldUniGaming. I just saw someone made a reddit thread as well (thanks to whoever did that if you happen to read this!). Share, share, share!Last updated:
