I've been waiting for this opportunity for a while, but never thought it would come so soon. I have been offered a solo exhibition at Poem88 during Atlanta Celebrates Photography's annual festival in Atlanta, Georgia. Here is my website with examples of the work. Problem with this work, is it doesn't really translate well in the digital form, so an exhibition is the only way I can fully realize my vision for the work.
Here's the problem though, the images cost a few hundred dollars a piece to make. I have been working my butt off (ask anyone I have 3 jobs) to try and save money, but small things keep happening that drain that budget (the landlords are renovating the apartment and we have to move out; medical bills; and other various random expenses). I've got a little bit left in my budget, but not nearly enough to fill the gallery with all the pieces that I want.
I figured the show will cost me on the conservative side, $2500. Like I said I have a little bit left in my savings for the show, so if I can get everyone out there to help me with this, I'll be able to realize the solo exhibition.
This video is from my MFA Thesis Exhibition, Polaroidland. It shows where I started with this process, using the camera to create some of the abstracted imagery. Now my process has evolved a bit and I no longer use the camera. Pledge enough, and you'll get to attend a workshop where I will reveal what my process is now and how you can make your own camera-less images.
A note about pledges and funding: Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing fundraising site, so if my goal is reached (or surpassed) by the deadline, then that's when the pledges get cashed in. But if we fall short of the goal, then all the pledges get cancelled and I don't get a penny. So it's important to pledge here if you want to donate, rather than giving me any money directly.
