Sticks and Stones: An Adventurous Role-playing Card Game
Unique game play where you protect your hero using your supporting cards and a stackable enhancement system!
We have decided to cancel the funding for S&S and do a reboot towards the end of the year. This decision was made to offer you a better quality game, at a lower price, and overall lower funding goal. To follow the progress of the reboot follow our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/stickandstonesrpg
2-players | Ages 8+ | 20-60min
What is included in this amazing card game?
124 playing cards total including:
-26 strategy cards for each faction
-26 enhancement cards for each faction
-10 terrain cards
-14 Counter die
-10 Hero cards
*card design is not final, this is a draft to give you an idea of what the cards will be like.
S&S has a very cool and unique fighting system. What's so unique about it? I'm glad you asked!
Unlike a normal trading card game, Sticks and Stones centers around two parts. You have an individual battle. As well as the option to continue on and win the war! As the game progresses and your opponent will begin to adapt through the use of terrain cards. These help add a bit of flair to the game and also help continue to challenge you to be creative with your cards.
The fighting system in S&S centers around a main hero card with up to 5 supporting cards at one time. To attack the hero, you must first defeat the supporting characters. Add in a sweet enhancement system that allows you to beef up your characters and you have unlimited possibilities.
Why pledge now? The bottom line is that this game will never exist without you. If you like the concept and are already imagining a copy of the game laid out on your kitchen table, preparing to battle your next opponent, then please pledge to make that a reality. This game will only become a reality if we can reach our funding goal of $50,000. We are a startup company with no one else backing us up, or funding us in any way. Our only reason to make this game is so that we can share our passion for games with you! The funding goal will cover all costs associated with the game. So for us that means:
-Art: There are almost 80 unique pieces of art that need to be completed for the game. This includes characters, backgrounds, card frames, card logos, tuck box art, rulebook art, symbols for custom die, and final packaging box art. We have decided to use Josh McGill for all of the character art and design. Josh has been working with me to create the character models you see here on the sight. He is extremely professional and very fast! I have no doubt that he is the perfect choice for this project, and with your help I can get him on board for the rest of the game! Check out his work here: www.mjosh.com
-Manufacturing: To make this game happen I have to at least order the factory minimum of 1000 units. However, ordering such a small quantity is very expensive. If I order a factory run of at least 2500 units, the cost drops by almost 50%. Ideally to keep the retail cost down and make the game affordable for you. I need to at least order a run of 2500 units to keep the final cost down for you and future consumers. This means spending close to $22,000 to manufacture in the US. Aside from just making the game cost effective, we also want to it to be high quality. We want the thickest card stock, high-gloss finish, quality full color packaging, and custom molded die. We don't just want to do it, we want to do it right!
-Shipping/Fulfillment: And of course I have to get all of these copies out to you the backers! I'll be honest, shipping is one of the most frustrating things to think about for any project. It's almost like a little green goblin that taunts you with uncertainty! Luckily we have companies like Amazon that offer fulfillment services to make this little goblin disappear! We will be shipping pallets of the final game to both Amazon and Amazon.ca for fulfillment. In order to do this, we will also need to purchase a barcode for S&S. Otherwise Amazon won't accept the games for shipment. This will simplify things and make the process easier for both us and our backers. However all this comes at a price. Jamey Stegmaier, from Stonemaier Games post stats for his wildly successful game Euphoria, of the $309,000 he raised from backers, he spent over $75,000 just in shipping costs! For his US and Canada backers it cost him $13 per game to ship. While Sticks and Stones will not be as heavy or have as large of packaging, we are still looking at around $6/game in the US which means a minimum of $15,000 just in shipping! That's a staggering amount!
So you can see how everything adds up. Pledging now, also ensures that you get any Kickstarter exclusive stretch rewards that are achieved!
Sticks and Stones is a fun, strategic card game, that gives you the power to choose your path to victory.
In S&S you will:
-Battle your opponent through the use of characters, enhancements, vehicles, heroes, and creatures!
-Beef up your characters with potions, special abilities, magic, and more!
-Crush your enemy using brute force, or a more tactical approach!
-Unique, and crazy cool artwork!
-Custom die for tracking progress!
-High quality components made to last through years of fun!
-An easy learning curve, while also giving you the option for more in depth gameplay!
How is it played?
1. Build your deck from a large selection of cool characters, crazy enhancements, and awesome creatures. Then choose your hero for the battle!
2. Obliterate your opponent! Using your deck you will Deploy>Enhance>Attack>Discard. Use ranged and melee cards to attack. Juice them up with some spells. Place in some defensive vehicles to block incoming attacks. Use counter-attack cards to send the enemies attacks right back at them!
3. After capturing the opposing hero, regroup and rebuild your deck for the next battle. Don't forget to adjust your strategy, because now your opponent will gain an advantage through the use of terrain cards! So stay alert and think outside of the box or you might be caught blindsided by a brutal attack!

So I've mentioning this "Sweet Enhancement System" a lot. You might be wondering what that means! Well here it is!
So the basic idea behind the enhancement system is to stack enhancements onto your characters to give them extra abilities, healing, more damage and so on. For example:
Blazing Sword: Enhancement - Enhances melee cards by +1 DMG. Roll the enhancement die to determine the number of turns the enhancements is active.
This card gives an advantage to all melee cards on the table, adding +1 DMG to each card. This could be a huge advantage if you have more than 1 melee card present at the time! Stacking multiple enhancements during your turn can give you an advantage over your opponent and help secure your victory! Another example of an enhancement could would be:
Amulet of Protection: Enhancement - Protects a single card from all incoming damage for 1 turn.
This could clearly help save you from losing the game during a crucial moment. It's key not only to use enhancements, but also to use them at the right time!
In addition to enhancements, you also have, Counter Attacks and Instant Play cards. Counter Attack cards allow you a chance to help reduce damage from an opponent, or send a lit back to them! Instant Play cards are cards such as potions, poisons and bombs that work instantly and are immediately discarded.
We want to make Sticks and Stones as awesome as possible! Help us hit our stretch goals by sharing the project early and often!
Risks and challenges
There are definitely risks associated with the process of publishing a game. The three points in the project that could slow down the delivery of the game are the artwork, manufacturing, and fulfillment. We have taken these into account and have planned ahead to help insure that everything goes smoothly. I can't say enough about our chosen artist, Josh McGill. He's fast, on time and extremely professional! We've also talked to multiple manufacturing companies and are down to two. We are just deciding whether to keep the manufacturing in the US or outsource to factories in China. This will all be determined by the end result of the Kickstarter. Either way we will not sacrifice quality or reliability. Both factories are able to handle large quantities and are very reliable. Shipping and fulfillment will most likely be done through Amazon Fulfillment here in the US and Canada. We spent many hours researching shipping methods. A lot of time was spent taking advice from other project creators. I have talked with Michael Mindes from Tasty Minstrel Games, who pointed me to Jamey Stegmaier's blog for Stonemaier Games. There is an abundance of information on there specifically covering every aspect of creating a game on Kickstarter. Being our first game, I decided to take as much advice from the pros as I could get. I feel very prepared and aware of issues that could occur. There can still be hiccups in even the most thought out plans. Rest assured we will keep you updated every step of the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
