i gave up on facebook 4 years ago, havent used it since, and dont plan on changing that. also, noticed on the stickers you used ckicker, was Catkicker too long?
Oh and we have a different artist doing a free map for use set on an alien planet for use with the system. I just received the first draft of the map this week and it'll provide a lot of interesting scenarios going forward. It'll be available for download on the livingworldsgames.com website once its finished and also will be for sale. It measures 24" x 36" in size.
As for the updated rulebook v2.0, once the scenario layout is complete using the new layout system, they'll replace the current layouts in the rulebook and it will be posted with the full ink and a low-ink version as well. A lot of the project resides in the scenario layout stage and once that is completed, everything hits almost at once.
We've posted updates on our Facebook with the ongoing status of everything mainly because I dislike spamming 1,000 people with miscellaneous information. However, I'll summarize everything recent here:
Delay: Long story short, loss of entire computer system. Had to recreate a lot of stuff from the originals, which meant basically redoing a lot of the basic work on items like tiles / tokens. Basically, I took all the original artwork that Howard sent in, processed it all a second time to be in the format we use, set up all the templates, the grid system, everything. It basically consisted of redoing the entire project with the exception of the rulebook. We've since started a more stringent backup process (it backs up the local system nightly, but we work off of revision controlled dropbox files that are fully retrievable and external to any single miscellaneous computer issue).
Scenarios: We recently hired a new graphic designer to update the way the scenarios look, since we had to recreate the layout anyway, we decided to update the look and make following the map creation easier. You can see an example of it in a link below in the work in progress (almost done, last editing and finishing touches on the mini-map portion) in the Z-Row G's Arena scenario link below.
Make Up NPC Sheets / Scenarios: These have been created. The sticker sheets for the NPCs have been printed and are ready for shipping just as soon as the updated layout design for the scenarios is finished (working on the mini-map portion mainly). The second web scenario, Z-Row G's Arena, is the free scenario to make up for those whose names we missed in the rulebook. As such, it'll be fully printed out and sent, along with the sticker sheets. It also includes rules for the Mono-Wire Boots found in one of the extra tile packs from the KickStarter. In addition, as the graphic design layout will be completely done, we're adding in the third extra scenario, this one an 'Infiltration' scenario as part of a story line mission set. It'll be printed on the back of Z-Row G's Arena. For shipping, we already have the manilla envelopes stuffed with the sticker sheets and have the multi-site shipping file ready to run through USPS as soon as the two scenario layouts are complete.
Expansion #1: The first expansion is still in the works and includes a number of extra villains / antagonists. We've got it priced with the printer and will soon be sending it out for some blind playtesting. In addition, we've got a new 3D Sculptor working on the miniatures for the game again. He's completed two of the sculpts and is working on the third. The image of the first miniature is on Facebook and also in a link below, as well as a cell phone picture of the miniature in physical form. The miniatures will actually take longer than the first expansion, mainly because miniature production is costly to get crisp looking details on the miniatures.
Example of the extra NPC Sticker sheet based on names of people who were missed in the Rulebook:
Example of the new layout for the 2nd Web Scenario: It still needs to be final edited and we're finishing up the new layout for the map area to better direct people how the map tiles go together.

and for a slightly less bad one:
last update was back in may or so, what ever happened to the expansion and "we messed up" new rule book/stickers? if they were sent, i never got mine.
Any word on the web scenarios and expansion? Or the download site for the updated rule book?
In other news, the Swan-PanAsia sleeves SWN-519 are a perfect size for the character sheets.
doh, forgot to update, one copy of 1955 donated to beale AFB rec center.
oh, and any update on the expansion pack and fixed manuals for those of us left off the original?
i got a copy of 1955 today. as soon as i get down to beale i'll donate my copy. feels kinda right to give a game about spys to the air force base thats home to the U2 SPY plane :)
OK, I know it's been a while, but I hope this will still be seen and answered...
I was under the impression that there would be a website somewhere with web scenarios and other information related to this game, but I have not been able to find it. The Living Worlds Games site only contains some basic information on the game as far as I can tell.
Does such a site exist, and if so, where can I find it?
no need, i plan to give them my copy. however, if you want to send them other games: beale community center, 17700 robert nicoletti way, bldg 2425 beale afb, ca 95903
@Kevin That is excellent. When I ship out the copies of 1955 (Need to get them from the warehouse), I'll include an extra copy for the AFB.
well, if you are in the air force and stationed at beale afb, you can now try out the game by going to the rec center and checking it out. :)
i finally figured out what im going to do with my extra copy of schlock i have. im a vet and go to Beale AFB often, so, im going to donate it to the rec center, they have many board games and video games there and i just have a feeling that schlock will be very welcome. if you would like to see some of your other games(im thinking 1955 will end up there too). send them along.
I believe people should own their mistakes. This one was solidly and completely mine (Dang you CTRL+Down Arrow shortcut!).
Regarding the first web scenario, I'm working with one of our backers to develop the name of the scenario even as we work on shaping the final rules for posting. In addition, though it has taken a bit more time, the errata is almost done. I'm doing it Low-Ink so it can be printed out.
i thought everyone would like to know how you handle screwups:
I am sending this to you to inform you that during the compilation of the Schlock Mercenary: Capital Offensive rulebook, the names you provided were missed and not included in the actual printed rulebook. To that end, and in order to ensure we make good on our promises, we will be implementing the following six steps. You don't need to do anything at this point, it is automatic.
1) We will be producing a promotional set of stickers featuring civilians and other items from the game. The stickers will be 1" in diameter circles and can be affixed to wooden discs. We will include the names of those who were not included in the rulebook as civilian character tokens. We will be sending you two copies as soon as the sticker sheets are laid out and the company prints them for us. (Expected completion date, January 1st, 2012)
2) These promo characters will be utilized in one of the next web scenarios we release. (Expected completion date, January 1st, 2012)
3) Everyone's whose name we missed in the rulebook will instead be included in the first expansion as a Special Thanks and We're Sorry.
4) I'll be sending an apology letter to all those affected signed by both myself and the designer of the game. (Expected completion date, January 1st, 2012)
5) Your names will be included in future print runs of the base game. (Expected completion date: Rulebook has already been updated and will be provided for download)
6) I will be shipping you a complimentary copy of our first released game (1955: The War of Espionage). (Expected completion date, January 1st, 2012)
Living Worlds Games, LLC.
i think that screw up might have left a scorchmark :)
Once you get it done, we'd love to work with you one the final refining step. That'd be great!
Nicholas, sure thing, I've already got the tile layout set up, I just want to hash out the customized rules of how the scenario plays out and playtest it. What irks me is the two friend's I've told about the scenario want Petey to be useable, I have to keep going, "NOPE, he's too over powered and will make it an assured victory for The Toughs."
The basic premise of the mission is all the Toughs are on the red ship when a ship controlled by The Partnership Collective attacks it, cripples it, and the ship crashes into the side of a space station. Doctor Bunnigus has the another green ship that was docked on the opposite side of the station. All the Toughs on the red ship have lost their bodies and have been placed in jars by Schlock (or Schlock and Elf if playing more than two players, my current house rules allow for no more than 4 players, two as collective, two as Toughs, not sure how it'll work until playtesting), the drones start entering the station from a central teraport gate and Schlock has to get everyone to the other side, revived, and then escape without getting splattered himself.
It's got a lot of little house rules thrown in such as uses for some of the equipment with no descriptions, Attorney Drones capable of using equipment, a way to switch from regular Schlock to Flying Schlock during gameplay, a way to summon bots and rules governing them. And that's not quite all.
If you'd like once I hash the entire thing out and feel it's fairly balanced I can email you the board layout (it's a doozy), and the custom scenario rules I bashed out, and then any modifications you feel that are needed can be made.
you'd said you had a fix for the left out backers and it would go out the next weekend. its been a month and i havent got anything, nor seen anything about it in the updates or on this thread. whats up?
Cameron, when you set up the scenario and the layout of the tiles, shoot us a line. I can lay it out in the scenario template and get it posted so others can enjoy it as well.
Mine came in after expected and to the wrong address (I asked for the address to be shipped to be changed, but it apparently hadn't, oops, thankfully still friends with the people that live there), but I did finally get it, I even set out to make my own scenario using ALL the large floor tiles and most of the 2x1 tiles. Once I hash out the scenario specific rules I bet it'll be loads of fun.
@The Roach: If you would like a replacement for the shipping damage to the game box, contact firstname.lastname@example.org so they can take care of you. Regarding the Tagon / Collective Dice, there should be 5 sets of dice. Each set is 5 Tagon Dice, 5 Collective Dice. See Update #40 (It is coming later this evening or tomorrow depending on typing speed) for individuals who did not receive Dice Bags/Cup combos or for replacement dice.
@Ryan Saige: Please see Update #39. We have a token list for the wood discs. It boils down to all 11 Toughs (Front and Back) and 8 Drones ( Front and back) with one disc left over for whatever you would like.
So I'm curious, since we got more stickers than wooden tokens, what stickers were actually intended to be put on the tokens, and what are the extra stickers?
Received my package yesterday - a heavily damaged shipping box, fortunately, only one of the game boxes was dented. However, I suspect some dice were lost in transit. How many dice (Tagon / Collective) are supposed to be included with 5 copies of the game?
After a few back and forths, I finally got my copy today. Spending today punching it out and then playing tomorrow with the kids.
Oh sweet Mother of Shlock... there are a LOT of counters.
My box of Schlock arrived today. :)
Everything accounted for and safe and sound.
@Gary: We're working on it! It just takes time and more time.
@BattleFalcon: Thank you for bringing that up. I've made a note of the missing dice so I can be sure it is a single unique happenstance brought on by assembly line manufacturing.
Played my first game last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I have to wait for the miniatures to come out to round out the characters I don't already have in metal. :-)
Ahhh, at long last! Looks awesome! However, you might want to have a little chat with the boys in Germany however. Of the two boxes I ordered, one was missing the bag with regular game dice. Doesn't matter much to me, there's plenty of bonus dice and my dice collection is rather big already, but people who only ordered one box might not catch on to missing dice inside the box given all the fancy bonus dice...
Approximately 22 individuals from your pledge tier. We've got a solution that we'll be mailing out this weekend to those who are affected.
how many of us didnt get their names in the rulebook? i'd asked for my callsign to be used: Catkicker and didnt find it, i also didnt find my real name
Just received my copy in the mail here in Edmonton, Canada. All the goodies look and feel great, I'm especially pleased with how sturdy the cardboard tokens feel.
I can't wait to play this beautiful looking game this weekend!
I just finished uploading a Learning Game instructional video to YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch…
It was filmed and recorded in my hotel room in a Mississippi country location, so fun! Ignore a bit of the graininess of the images, old iPhones still only work so well for photos.
This video, coupled with the rulebook, should make learning the Learning Game easy. A Token Reference Sheet and an Equipment Reference Sheet are coming shortly.
Got mine today! Looks fantastic and I can't wait to play. I know a few people who will be interested in playing with me, too! *happy dance*
My game arrived today! For those who haven't gotten yours yet, be advised that the standard game is in the shrink-wrapped box, and the extra goodies are on top of that, with lots of styrofoam peanuts on top of everything. When I started digging through the styrofoam, the first thing I found was the dice cup. I was a bit disappointed that we were not the first to get to play this game. I'll get over it, though.
Just got the game in today and loving it all. And now i know whats going with me to my surgery recovery week where i wont have internet or even cell phone to distract me.
I'm tired of roads yet tomorrow I drive back to Mississippi for the day job. I haven't distanced it yet, but I believe it is an 8-10 hour drive.
I'm bringing my computer and a copy of Schlock. If anyone is in Jackson, MS or the surrounding area and wants to play a game, please email me at email@example.com. Likewise, if there is a weekend convention anywhere in the area in the next two months, please let me know so I can travel to it.
Regarding the update, I started typing it during lunch / break and am currently at 4 pages and still going. This doesn't include the pictures that I will be adding to the post.
Thanks for the update! That Indy to Houston drive is a killer; I've made it a few times myself.
Sorry for the delay in response.
I broke my iPhone during travel for GenCon and could not make posts except on other people's devices.
I have a lot of saved up information to be posted this evening.
We drove back from Indianapolis, leaving late Sunday night, and arrived yesterday (Monday) afternoon after a 20 hour drive just in time for me to get my phone repaired (cracked display, cracked glass, cracked back plate).
My apologies for the delay in communication caused by that. This evening you will have a very large update with all the information that was to be posted during the convention, about shipping and about the coming future.
Howard says they're shipping this week: http://www.schlockmercenary.com/blog/gen-con-indy-2012#comment-621823301
(Though I don't know how good Howard's information is, or why we haven't heard anything firsthand. I'm frankly a little annoyed by the communication breakdown here. There haven't even been any of the promised mini-updates [see update #34] on the Facebook page since 8/11.)
There were copies at GenCon, I'm guessing that the KS copies will ship soon?
No further updates yet, huh? :-(
@Ben Heff: At the top of the page, underneath the title "Schlock Mercenary The Board Game" is the text "A Board & Card Games project in Houston, TX by Nicholas Vitek * send message".
Click on the send message and it'll set up a message to us privately. Include your new address and we'll update it.
@Everyone I send off the address list in the morning, please ensure that if you have any last minute address changes, you get them in tonight.
I don't know how to send you a message, and its late, but I'm pretty sure my mailing address is wrong since I just moved back from Japan. Is there any way to check and maybe change it? Thanks!
@Ian: A week before shipping, I'll post asking for last minute address changes. If you have an address change now, just message me and I'll update shipping now.
@All: Word has been given that they are UPS'ing the demo games tomorrow.
When you're getting ready to ship, could you send out an e-mail? My address has changed, so I know I'll need to update that information when the time comes.
@Scott: It all depends on the dates of the convention. They should be in hand in mid July and going out right away. I've been working with the manufacturer to get the most up to date information (FYI, the game is 100% completed already) regarding the cargo ship ETA to the US. Once I get a firm date out of the shippers (as in when it'll hit the US shore), I'll post it asap.
They are FedEx'ing me a box of games so I can send it out for demoing at conventions. Depending on timing of US shipping, etc, I may send out the demo copies to make late June / Early July conventions on the understanding that it needs to be shipped to the next convention (at my cost of course) so that people who want to demo it can have a demo copy of it for their conventions. More on this as I get word on how many they're sending me (at least a box of games, hopefully 2).
Any word on when the games will ship to backers? I have a couple of conventions coming up next month and would love to take it with me. (LibertyCon in Chattanooga is the important one)
@Peggy: I won't be able to head to Origins this year to run Demos. The Origins team decided to run their event the weekend before the largest yearly audit that I'm in charge of. Since I am in charge of the audit, I must spend the weekend preparing for it and thus can't be a thousand miles away enjoying myself running demos.
We will be at Protospiel (Game Designer convention in Ann Arbor) and GenCon, as well as BGG Con and depending on time, other local conventions around Texas / surrounding states.
Don't suppose there are any other backers in the UK who'll be headed to Q-Con XIX (Belfast-based gaming con) in June? I'd love to have demos of Sclock on the go but am organising the whole shebang so won't have time to run them myself...
