FAITHLESS is a dark thriller that looks at the tough subject of suicide and the lengths a parent will go to to have revenge for the death of their child.
This campaign is to shoot a proof of concept that will enable the production of the feature film. Just like a lot of films (300, Sin City, District 9 plus many more), a powerful scene is chosen from the main body of the script and shot to demonstrate to future investors that the film has a place in the market.
It's an intense character driven thriller combining traditional thriller elements interwoven with a noir feel to accentuate the starkness. Think along the lines of Mystic River, Prisoners, Chinatown, The Third Man and you’re in the realms of possibility.
And just like those great films, it is an original story with great characters that are instantly recognisable but also intriguing and mysterious, allowing us to enjoy the journey.
The film has been written by Steve McCarten a producer of several shorts and corporate projects and an actor from stage and screen with several feature film and television credits to his name and James Dwyer a screenwriter and a Blog Awards Winner.
Steve has been mentored by the BAFTA-nominated and accomplished film maker in his own right Tim Clague. Who recently celebrated the release of his own feature film Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg which premiered at the British Film Institute sponsored London Film Festival and Steve has recently completed production as Line Producer and 1st Assistant Director on British Horror 'Harbour'. He is further being mentored by the astute Suki Singh director of high profile television commercials and feature film Emulsion.
Furthermore, the script has undergone intense scrutiny from the wonderful Danny Stack. Alongside his own writing/directing career, Danny Stack is a script consultant, and has previously worked as a script reader for a variety of film companies including Working Title, Pathe, Miramax (Harvey Weinstein era) and the UK Film Council, to name but a few. He was development script editor for the British film, The Man Inside, starring Peter Mullan (2012), and he script edited the Irish-language feature film Kings starring Colm Meaney (2007).
They both have worked together for over 6 years, including creating and hosting the UK Scriptwriters Podcast, the number 1 in its field.
We can also confirm the addition of Berndt Wiese as Cinematographer, he has worked in the industry for 20 years starting out as an Assistant Camera and now working as a recognised cinematographer in his own right and having worked on prestigious productions like Furious 6, Spectre Da Vinci's Demons to name just a few. We're absolutely stoked to be working with him.
Berndt has kindly supplied his showreel - amazing stuff.
Having been busy finalising the script and securing the wonderful local talent, using our own funds and resources we have secured the cast and locations and with your help we are now ready to take the film into production shooting in glorious 4K on the industry standard Arri Amira and Cooke Lenses used on professional film and Television shoots.
Although the producers are past masters at getting every penny into production and using our own funds, resources and industry network have taken us this far, now we need your help to get across the finish line, where you can rest safe in the knowledge that your investment in the project will be used to great effect.
Our cast is incredibly talented, the crew is made up of seasoned industry professionals who believe in the project, and the story of course is not to be missed. But nothing happens without your financial support!
Here are just some of the things your pledges will help fund: Arri Amira - Filming the production in the latest 4k resolution will ensure that the story can be distributed to the largest platforms including Amazon Prime and Netflix. Cooke Lenses - Exceptional lenses will give the cameras the best possible images to record. Practical Effects, Camera/Dolly Equipment Lights, Props, Wardrobe, Sound Equipment, Crew and lets not forget feeding as many as 30 people twice a day for several days and that's just to shoot the film! After that, we'll need to pay for post-production, editing, sound design, mastering, colour correction, ADR, festival submission fees, and the list goes on and on!
But remember, we know how to stretch our finances to make every penny of every pledge matter. The collective production crew have over 80 years combined experience in this industry producing film, TV and independent content and getting the most bang for the buck.
Everyone who has committed to the project has done so because they believe it has all the requirements to be a success, great story that's been well written, an excellent production team and a great Director in Steve McCarten and a veteran in the industry Cinematographer Berndt Weise and all committed to making the best thriller. Period.
Help: Donations of course are the most direct way to help us out, but there's another way you can help us: Just Spread the Word! Tell your friends about the Kickstarter by sharing the link below. Tell your family! Tell your neighbours dog!
Show them that you've pledged your support and we'll do the same! From £5 to £1,000, we've got a perk to fit your comfort level. Your pledge is greatly appreciated and we cannot thank you enough for helping us make this fantastic film!
If you own a business and would like to become a sponsor, we have perks for that, too!!
We've sown up our external locations and are now in the process of securing our INT. (Interior) locations. Watch this space for the updates as they happen.
Our fundraising target is to cover our day-to-day production costs. These include: transport, catering, insurance and costume/art department, not to mention the special considerations that are in place with regard to filming during winter (shorter days/filming conditions etc).
The Kickstarter total is what we need to get this film in the can. We hope you'll support us so that we can continue this amazing adventure!
With a combination of our own money, existing resources, generosity of the crew (and the Kickstarter funds), we can meet the required budget.
Thanks for stopping by and remember to share, share, share.
From everyone on the team, a massive thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
UPDATE: Bobby Cole - Composer
We're pleased to announce that Bobby Cole has joined the project.
Bobby is a British music composer https://soundcloud.com/bobbycole, sound designer and songwriter. He composes in a wide range of genres, creating exciting, dynamic and evocative music that blends contemporary orchestral sounds with modern electronic hybrid influences. With a proven track record composing for the film industry (Wu Dang, Poltergeist Activity, Valley of the witch) plus high end work within broadcasting industry (clients include MTV, ITV, Comedy Central, Red Bull, Virgin Media to name just a few), Bobby is professional and will bring a creative spark to the project. We're really looking forward to having him on board.
Risks and challenges
We believe this film and its genre is in demand by the market, but our challenge is to achieve the film on the low budget that we've had to set ourselves. Setting the film entirely in just 3 location helps a lot but once the film is made, getting it noticed by the target audience and the wider industry will be key to the film's success. However, we're not trying to compete with the big Hollywood blockbusters; we're aiming to make a solid film that you can enjoy watching knowing you helped make it the best, most entertaining thriller we possibly can within our tight filmmaking parameters.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
