About this project
Wired Art is looking at creative ways to incorporate technology with art and fashion. The result is what looks like a normal t-shirt, but once it is switched on the t-shirt lights up and reacts to various sound levels with adjustable sensitivity.
Our intent with this project was to make a t-shirt that responds to its environment. We decided to focus on two forms of energy: Sound, which is ubiquitous and impacts many elements around it. Light, which is affecting its surroundings too but as a source of energy directed at the sight. With proper programming, it is possible to combine the two impulses, making LED lights which react to the volume or frequency around them.
Incorporating this into a design, we came up with four different t-shirts each with a sound wave pattern that lights up according to the volume of the surrounding environment.
Not only does this t-shirt light up, it is also a piece of art. We wanted the t-shirts to be cool and high tech, but also simple and wearable for everyday use. You can wear the t-shirt for work or school and later switch it on and light up the dance-floor so all your friends will be surprised and amazed!
The mission of our project reaches further than this campaign. The principal intent is to explore the market and see if there is a desire for our product and ideas. Should we reach the goal of this campaign, we will use it as a springboard to start an online shop selling not only t-shirts but art merchandise in a variety of forms, merging art, fashion, technology and anything more we can think of. Join us on this endeavour, we are only just beginning!
The LED plate and battery box can be removed when you need to wash the t-shirt. Requires two AAA batteries (not included). Made of 95% cotton and 5% lycra.
The poster and t-shirt package deal is shipped as separate packages and may not arrive at the same time.
The size of all posters are 50 x 70 cm.
Since October 2016, we have been a team working daily with the artist Poul R. Weile in his studio in Berlin-Friedrichshain. During the last 6 months, we have also been investing our time in other big projects such as The People’s Princess, Cubistic Scans and Digital Graffiti and are always looking to realise new ideas. We’re a mixed, international team, consisting of three Danes; Poul R. Weile, Rikke Bank and Clara Sune Buch, South African Lianray Pienaar, German Qais Anwarzay and Chinese Bo Yang. Poul R. Weile is the artist behind it all and working closely together, we as a team discuss and develop the projects. All of the t-shirt designs are inspired by Poul R. Weile’s artworks.
We are collaborating with a small Chinese company of about 25 employees located south west of Shanghai in the Zhejiang Province of China. The company specialises in the implementation of LED lights onto t-shirts, using i.e. sound or touch. In Berlin, we prepare the designs and in China they are produced and fitted onto good quality t-shirts. Finally, they are shipped to us in Berlin, ready to make their way to you! The posters are produced in Germany.
Risks and challenges
TIME: Production time and getting all orders out within the limits of our timeline is a risk that must be accounted for, if a larger amount of t-shirts than anticipated is ordered. A delay in delivery might occur. We are, however, in close contact with our supplier in order to prepare for a greater demand and the whole team is ready to work as hard as we can to process your order!
ATTENTION: Spreading the word and bringing attention to the project without a big spending budget is a challenge that we are meeting with creative and in action marketing. If you want to help us reach our goals (and be sure to get your t-shirt), please tell your friends, like and share our posts on social media and/or pledge and receive our stencil kit via email and take to the streets! Positive energy sent our way is also appreciated - we do feel it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
