The first-ever VR Camp at Burning Man will bring the world's latest VR tech to Black Rock City!
Hi, my name is Shannon Norrell. I'm a Virtual Reality Enthusiast and member of the Bay Area virtual reality community. VR is rapidly growing in popularity, and I see it as an important "movement"-- where spreading the word of how cool it is to folks who have yet to experience it is almost as important as the tech itself.
I also love Burning Man. I've had the privilege of working on many ambitious high-profile projects over the years, including the Trojan Horse and Alien Siege Machine. An estimated 40,000 people personally interacted with each of these large-scale art projects.
My team for VR Camp is a strong mix of veteran Burners and newcomers with a diverse set of skills. We're well-equipped to tackle the challenges of bringing this cutting edge technology to the harsh desert environment-- as long as we have the necessary equipment.
With your support, we'll bring virtual reality to Burning Man in a BIG way.
VR Camp will consist of a large screen (30x20') for the cinematic display of interactive experiences including a giant Godzilla dancing with the crowd, controlled by a real-time motion capture suit. Each night we'll feature different VR content, motion captured dancers, and real-time feeds of VR demos happening inside the tents.
On each side of the screen are two large expo tents (40x20'), both containing demo stations showcasing the latest VR hardware and software. We'll be showing off a wide variety of the best VR content, from animated narrative shorts, to immersive abstract "trips", to 360° music visualizers and videos.
Our goal is to inspire the creative community of Burning Man through innovative art experiences only possible in virtual reality.
