About this project
Dear friends and fans,
I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you about the Poorhouse Millionaires.
This project started because Ray Vazira and I wanted to make music together after years as friends and fans of each other’s work. In 2011 we took the leap and started writing songs together.
From the beginning the focus has been on writing our own songs and playing live. At this point we are coming up on our first anniversary together and we have played nearly 50 shows at a variety of California venues.
We asked our friend Eli Lester to join us as our lead guitarist about six months into our project after working with him unofficially for quite a while. We have since added a couple more members to out motley crew including Skeez Nava and Nathan Ignacio, on upright bass and Harmonica respectively. Often times Ray and I still preform as a Duo due to the fact that the venue or event may not call for a full band.
This CD that we are working on now is called “Prevention Intervention” and is named after one of our songs. The record was written to chronicle the past year in our lives and we believe it represents the various styles of music we want to make as we move forward. We also believe that it tells an honest and passionate story about our experiences. We poured every ounce of emotion and sweat that we had into this project.
I believe the most obvious musical genre influence on “Prevention Intervention” is Blues but, Folk, Old School Country and Gospel are infused into the mix also to offer a sense of variety and depth.
We raised the money for the studio time and mixing and mastering of the album by playing shows and saving our pay and the money from our trusty tip jar. You could say that we are doing all of this the old-fashioned way. You will hear a sense of struggle and growth in our music and we are proud of that. We are highly motivated people on a mission! You can believe me when I say that we take our music seriously and will put your money to good use. We know about hardship and we know that your money is hard-earned. We respect that very much. We sincerely appreciate our fans and friends.
The goal of this project is to raise the money needed to produce the physical copies of our CD’s and T-shirts, as well as cover the cost of promotional materials. We believe our goal amount to be a relatively modest amount when you consider that one of the major expenses (studio time) is already covered. If we go over our goal, all the remaining money will go toward producing more shirts and other promotional items including stickers and buttons. Money from this Kickstarter campaign will also be used to ship copies of our CD to radio stations and record companies.
I think that’s about it folks. Please take the time to view our video and check out our Facebook page. Lets team up and ‘Kickstart’ the heck out of this project!
I have been so inspired by the recording process that I have begun writing songs for our next CD already. This will be a long and bumpy road. We are excited about the ride and we hope that you will join us.

Risks and challenges
We've proven we are able to face challenges by raising the money to record our CD. The challenge now is to keep the momentum going. With help from friends and supporters we are confident we can raise the necessary funds to support our future endeavors and taking the band to the next level of touring. Most importantly, we believe we will produce music we can all be proud of and enjoy for years to come.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
