About this project
Diabolical! is a lighthearted tabletop game for 3–6 players where you play an outrageous villain trying to take over the world! To do so, you'll need to complete evil schemes and execute the most nefarious plan among your evil compatriots.
Watch out, though! The other villains are trying to complete the same schemes as you, and they’ll take any opportunity to stab you in the back and steal the prize for themselves.
Over the last 2 ½ years of development and testing, here are some of the things our 150+ playtesters have liked about the game:
- Unique blend of tactics and chaos
- Easy to understand and develop a strategy
- Dual-effect player actions create interesting tension between gathering necessary resources and potentially allowing an opponent to get the upper hand in the victory condition
- Great theme, characters, sense of humor, and artwork
Your goal is to collect the most Scheme Points by the end of the game. To do so, you'll need to make the most of every round by managing your cash, the space in your lair, and your minion army effectively.
Don’t forget to use your Villain’s special powers to give yourself a boost or slow down your opponents!
Here's a 90 second introduction on how to play the game:
Note: The acrylic gems and cubes shown in this video are a stretch goal for this campaign. The base game will use punchboard tokens.
The core gameplay revolves around simultaneous action selection with a twist of resource management and “take that!” style variable player powers. The result is a uniquely blended, tactical yet chaotic experience that can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages and experience levels.
What differentiates Diabolical! from other games is its dual-effect player actions. These actions, called commands, both gather resources and progress toward completing a related evil scheme.
Since schemes frequently take multiple actions to complete, it’s important to anticipate opponents’ moves. Time your actions effectively or you might make it easier for your opponents to complete schemes and gain Scheme Points!
Overall, Diabolical! is a medium-lightweight game in the same vein as King of Tokyo, Smash Up, and Epic Spell Wars, with a slightly greater emphasis on strategy.

Risks and challenges
While this is our first time running a Kickstarter campaign and some delays are possible along the way, we have spent considerable time researching and coordinating this project to ensure a smooth execution upon successful funding.
Manufacturing and freight shipping have been organized using reputable and highly-recommended businesses. Final distribution to backers will be organized shortly after the campaign closes.
The art and graphic design are being done entirely in-house and are 90% done. Both Evan and James have experience designing for print, which will help ensure that the final product is of the highest quality possible.
Furthermore, we have access to a wealth of knowledge and experience via the Kansas City Game Designers group, which includes multiple published game designers through both traditional channels and Kickstarter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
