About this project
LA WRAP PARTY INCENTIVE + 100 NEW N00DZ!
During the remaining hours of our campaign, we'd like to offer you something else: If you pledge or increase anything $1 or more, we will send you a new batch of ONE HUNDRED n00dz shot by Ama! We sent the amazing folks who pledged and increased last week a batch of 40 photos, and though that deal is gone, here's a chance for 100 new ones!
Backers who already pledged and increased will get their additional 100 as soon as the countdown goes to 0, and you'll get your batch, too, if you help us with alleviating fees and putting more towards our actual production! We're so fucking excited to shoot!
We have also added a $125 pledge level: Join the amazing Cast & Crew of RED RED (schedules permitting) for a Wrap Party in the Los Angeles area! YAY!
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our project. We are currently in pre-production for RED RED and would like to give you an opportunity to be part of it.
We are set to shoot mid-August in the breathtakingly gorgeous coastal New England. We have beautiful locations near the Atlantic.
RED RED is a sexually charged thriller that follows a young woman named Julia as she begins her journey into sexual exploration while trying to repress dark nightmares seemingly from her childhood. Somewhere in this dark fairy tale, her nightmares come to life as herself and her lovers are being stalked and murdered by an unknown assailant in bloody, unfathomable ways.
RED RED is a short film written and directed by Ama Lea. It is inspired by films from the 1970s and 1980s by Italian greats such as Dario Argento and Mario Bava. The sensuality and style of the giallo genre has appealed to Ama since she can remember. Ama and the crew wish to bring our own twist to this homage in RED RED.
We added new incentives! On Friday, July 13th, Ama & Jade drove during LA Rush Hour to get to San Diego by 12:30 PM. They stopped at Wendy's and had a couple of Spicy Chicken Sandwiches, they unloaded in Ocean Beach and then they took a 7.5 mile bike ride from Ocean Beach to Downtown, San Diego. They were unprepared. They got to Comic-Con by 5:30 PM-ish and ended the day at Hooters, fully inhaling two hot dogs. They took a cab home, convinced the taxi driver to throw their bikes in his trunk, and managed to get 2 out of 498 flyers out to people at the Con. They crashed in bed by 9 PM.
On Saturday, July 14th, Ama & Jade had a little more luck, and managed to hand out about 350 flyers. We just added a limited $7 incentive where we will personalize the postcards and mail 'em to you through the trusty USPS!
We also have 50 of these flyers at our favorite New Beverly Cinema! Please do check out a double feature at the New Bev and take one, while supplies last! Support an incredible theatre that screens all their films in 35mm! This is where Jade experienced SUSPIRIA & DEEP RED for the first time!
We truly appreciate your support, and had so much fun this past weekend! We especially loved when Ama stopped a stroller from passing in front of Jade & Rob for a picture. She said, "Stop being an asshole!" and Rob Huebel yelled, "Dude, that's a baby!"; it was classic.
We had a crazy fun time at Comic-Con, and we really love you all!
ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS
Ama Lea | Writer/Director
Ama Lea is a world-renowned photographer making her way into the film industry. She was valedictorian of her class at New England School of Photography in 2004 and went on to excel in grad school at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California. She has shot over 53 magazine covers in only 4 years. She is the photographer behind the horror art project, The Bloody Best, where she has shot numerous legends of the horror industry. RED RED is her fourth short film.
Jade Luber | Producer
Jade co-founded Movies in Los Angeles. She loves the concepts and experiences conveyed through cinema and vowed to make, watch and celebrate movies 'til the day she dies. She has been a writer, director, producer, crafty, set dresser, assistant, post-production coordinator and more on numerous projects since 2003, at the age of 14. She even got to stand near Steven Spielberg for a picture in 2010. He assured her, along with 15 other Inner-City Filmmakers students, that they would be the next filmmakers in cinema. She is a native of the San Fernando Valley, and does not sound like a "Valley Girl".
Diego Madrigal | Director of Photography
When Diego was 10, his aunt asked him to film a family gathering. Being able to see everything through a viewfinder was the best thing in the world. From that moment on, he knew he wanted to always be behind a camera. He has always been drawn to masterpieces of black and white film from the 50's and 60's, while enjoying the raw colors of classic films from the 70's. His love for films makes him always try to incorporate this into his own work while not mimicking but making it his own.
Laura Raczka | Hair/Make-Up/Wardrobe
Laura is a Hair & Make-Up Artist and Stylist, born and raised in the suburbs of LA. She was that kid that ran with scissors. She feels as if she have been styling hair since birth and playing in her mother's makeup since about age 3. She graduated from Paul Mitchell in 2007, worked on set while she was in school and has continued to work on set since. She works in film, fashion, runway, editorial, weddings, special events, music videos... pretty much: you name it, Laura can do it, and do it well.
Madeline Hamilton | Special Effects Make-Up
Madeline is a professional Make-Up Artist who started her career with advanced makeup artistry studies at EI School of Professional Makeup in Hollywood, CA and went on to become a licensed Esthetician. Even as a kid, Madeline's strong passion for art and color were encouraged, resulting in a strong passion for make-up artistry. She makes it a point to constantly strive for more and be involved in the industry as much as possible with editorial, film, TV, weddings and runway work.
We're sure if you're looking at backing this project you are wondering what your hard earned dollars will be used towards. Simply put, making movies isn't cheap!
A good portion of the cast and crew will be traveling from Los Angeles to Bucksport to make this movie. Part of your donations will be used to get us all there via road trip!
To get the BEST look possible we are looking to shoot on a RED. This camera is roughly $500 a day. Yikes! But it's well worth it to capture the imagery and bring you the best film possible.
LIGHTS, GEAR & EXPENDABLES
If you've ever seen a giallo film you'll know that it's all about lighting! Since we're shooting primarily on location we also have to rent generators. This amount of gear and lights adds up fast.
- CRAFT SERVICES
- RED VINES
Everyone needs to eat! A good producer knows that a well-fed, energized, snacked and caffeinated (to those who prefer ;]) crew is happiest and works the hardest!
MAKE-UP & SPECIAL EFFECTS
- MORE BLOOD
Four key visual accents to perfect our giallo.
PROPS & WARDROBE
Set & Costume Design are two of the most important aspects of filmmaking. We want to bring elaborate colors to our psychedelic film noir, and without the balance of badass weapons and stylish costuming to blend into our world, our vision will not be complete.
INSURANCE, LOCATIONS, PERMITS
- Minimum $1,000 Insurance Bond
- LOCATIONS (Donations/Fees)
- PERMITS (City)
ANY AMOUNT will help make the film possible, and there are some pretty cool rewards for supporting the project (just look to the right).
Remember, Kickstarter is all-or-nothing! This means that, even if we're a dollar short and time runs out, we get nothing.
If you don't have any money to spare, we understand. You can always help by spreading the word and sharing info about our film and campaign with your friends!
