Duke & Winston is a clothing line expanding into high quality, well branded and domestically produced products for man's best friend.
What do I want to do - I started Duke & Winston on a whim a few years ago in my basement and $5000 I got from selling my car and zero fashion experience. Two years later as a one man company I've been able to build it into a profitable men's t-shirt line that's continuing to grow. (I've moved from the basement to the living room these days though)

A few months back I wanted to expand into a line of very well made dog products after noticing that many options out there were either very cheap plastic rhinestone covered products or extremely expensive Paris Hilton style collars/leashes costing hundreds to thousands of dollars in some cases. I couldn't find a go to mid-range line that made awesomely crafted dog gear but were still reasonably priced. Since Duke & Winston is based on my English bulldog, The Duke, I realized that my brand already had great dog related imagery and was already set up to enter the dog product market. I decided that I would start out with amazingly well constructed leather leashes and collars that would be very well (but subtly) branded and cater to those out there that want well made, refined products for our dogs but don't want to break the bank either. I've spent months putting the concepts together, drawing sketches and computerized specs of what I want the initial line to look like. I've taken imagery and details from the clothing line and turned them into charms and details for the dog line.
How I plan to do it - I hooked up with Tanner Goods in Portland, Oregon to help me develop the first line of 4 very unique sets of Leashes and Collars that would be unlike anything else out there in the market. Tanner hand produces all their leather goods in the US using the highest quality domestically soured materials. They have agreed to help me refine my concepts so that all issues such as sizing, durability and assocaited costs are taken into account. Learn more about materials used by Tanner and their unique processes here (http://www.tannergoods.com/pages/about-us) What the Money is For - I am here on Kickstarer to raise the funds to get the introductory line developed as well as to get the line out to market. I strongly believe that if I put the same amount of energy and hard work into developing the dog line as I've done so with the clothing line that Duke and Winston Pets will quickly become one of the best pet lines out there. My goal isn't to do away with the clothing line but to develop the pet line side by side with the clothing line so that Duke & Winston can become the go to brand for Pets & their owners (which I think is pretty unique) While I know I will need considerable funds to get a domestically made quality line like this off the ground, I believe that by working smart and being conscious of how I allocate funds, I can get things rolling for the $15,000 I am looking for and can then seek additional funding once I have the first phase developed. The Initial funds will be used for the following: 1) Work with Tanner to flesh out my concept and develop the first sample round of 4 set sets of collars/leashes and charms: $5500 2) Initial production run to use as rewards to kickstarter donors and as well as 50 or so sets for sample sales: $4000 (rough estimate) 3) Develop and execute lifestyle imagery & materials for the new line (photoshoots, print materials,...): $1500 4) If funds allow I plan on attending the Super Zoo Pet Retailer Expo (http://www.superzoo.org) in September where I will market the line to thousands of retailers nationally - $4200 ($2700 - booth fee, $1500 travel & booth setup) 5) I have already created & sampled complimentary products including the extremely popular union jack dog bed and Duke & Winston Dog bowls. I would like to produce a small production run of these to add to the leashes and collars also - $2000
Rewards - Beginning at the $25 level all donors will receive the top selling Gentleman Duke Tee (men's/woman's styles available - retails for $32+ in stores) and will be giving other awesome rewards as the pledges progress). I would have loved to give a set of leashes and collars to everyone but because domestic manufacturing is so expensive, I can only begin to do so after the $150 level....Ever donor will receive discounts on all Duke & Winston products...which I will send to anyone who provides me with their email addresses..
