Backer Refunds

Posted by Electromagnate (Creator)
Dearest Kickstarter Backers,

It has been far too long since the last update, and I'm afraid that this is the most difficult one to write. Sadly, we will not be able to complete the film.

This decision was made with a heavy heart. We know how much all of you looked forward to this movie, and it's time for us to face the facts. It has been 4 years since we started this project, and we have not been able to finish post-production.

We had every intention of completing the film, but it has become too much for our small team to handle. This project was more ambitious than we knew, and we lacked the experience to deliver on our promises. We sincerely appreciate your patience and support along the way, and hope that you can understand what a difficult decision this is.

While most of the funding was used for travel and equipment costs, there is still roughly $7,800 left. From this money, we intend to refund all backers the percentage they contributed to the project. We will be sending out an email to every backer requesting a mailing address to send a refund check to. After Jan. 31, 2014, any funds remaining (from those who have not responded, or those who do not want a refund) will be donated to the Internet Archive.

We really want this project to live on, so we are releasing all content related to the film under a Creative Commons (CC BY-SA 3.0 US) license. This includes all audio, video, and related art (including the T-shirt files). We will be uploading all content to the Internet Archive in the coming weeks, and will post links to the content as they become available.

Please stay tuned for updates on content location, and if you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact us at the email address below.

Again, we apologize for the lack of communication and the failure to complete this project. We hope that some of you are able to take the content and turn it into the documentary that the Maker Movement deserves.

Thanks for letting us know. As disappointed as I am regarding the film itself, I am pleased and encouraged by the decision to release the content and support the Internet Archive. Onward!

Hey Jordan - I appreciate the openness and sincerity. I wish you guys had been able to finish the film, but I appreciate that you are refunding backers, which is a pretty stand up thing to do.
