Hi! I'm Daney Rivera and I'm a senior Illustration major at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Right now, for my senior thesis, I am creating and establishing Apocalypse Skateboards. Apocalypse Skateboards was first inspired by the Book of Revelation in the New Testament of the bible. It is in Revelations that you find the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. A very large part of the Apocalypse Skateboard project is taking these Four Horsemen, making them into “riders” under the Apocalypse Skateboards label, and creating merchandise for each one. The Apocalypse Skateboards Project has become my own branded line of apparel and, hopefully, skateboards.
In the first half of my school year, I was able to create the branding for Apocalypse Skateboards, create an embroidered hat, and design and hand screenprint 5 3-color t-shirts (one for each rider, and one for the brand itself). The next half of this project is about designing and producing at least four skateboards (one for each rider) and four longboards. Each board will be designed by myself, and then that design will be shipped out to be printed on the actual boards. Each new design with correspond with something based in the Book of Revelation. The finished line of apparel and skateboards/longboards will be featured and on display in MICA’s Commencement Exhibition, which will be opening on May 17th on MICA's campus.
This project is what I’ve been dreaming of for all of my college career, and is by far the most challenging, exciting, and ambitious project I have ever worked on. As you can imagine, the material and production costs are adding up, and to continue this project I am in need of support. If funded, I will be able to create and produce all 4 skateboards, 4 longboards, and I will be able to purchase displays for all the boards and apparel in the graduating thesis show. If I do not reach my goal, I will get nothing, and will most likely not be able to continue this project. Thank you so much for showing your support and helping make my vision a reality.
Risks and challenges
One of the biggest challenges I'm facing is putting together all of the rewards for all of my potential backers and getting it all out in a timely fashion - while still working on the project and being a full time student. For me, getting the rewards out to my backers is my main priority because I wouldn't even be able to continue this project if is wasn't for you all. I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that I get everything you've pledged for out in a reasonable amount of time. If for some reason I am having issues or get set back, I will make sure to be in contact with all of my backers and give updates on what's going on.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
