And the big one! £25,000 - The Soundimals app!
This is the goal we're aiming for now, an application for children to play with, inspiring a love of language with all these fun sounds! Basically, you tap the animals and it makes the sound, spoken by a native speaker of that language! We've been working on it for a while on and off so we're really looking forward to finishing it off.
Here are some gifs of what we've got so far!
So if we can raise enough money, myself and my good buddy Dan (who is crazy good at computer things) can afford to finish the development, record some voices, and test it on a bunch of devices!
What is Soundimals?
Soundimals is an illustration project I've been working on for two years. It all started with dogs. I was told that in other languages they don't go "woof", so I asked around and found a crazy variety of fun alternative sounds, which I thought would make a fun illustration.
Each week I choose a new sound, ask some native speakers what they are in their first language and post the artwork online to spread the word.
OK, but why are you doing this Kickstarter???
Last year, I self published a book of international animal sounds to a great public response (5 star reviews from young and old! ☆☆☆☆☆!). Now a follow-up has been written and illustrated, and it's all about the sounds people make (chomp, slurp, cough, burp etc.) in different languages.
It's called How To Sneeze in Japanese, and it's a great book for anyone who likes making funny sounds! If you're looking to develop a love of language, this book offers an entertaining new point of view that school lessons may have overlooked. The silly illustrations make it perfect for kids, and the content itself is really interesting for all ages
With a real emphasis on diversity, it's the perfect present for young and old, multi-lingual families, and especially for children finding their language lessons a real snooze (maybe they're looking for new sounds to make when they're yawning and snoring in lessons).
This book (A5 sized, 14.8 x 21 cm, softcover) includes new sounds not seen before, and a load of new illustrations!
24 sounds (inc. kissing, eating, screaming, laughing, crying, cheering, stomping, coughing, sniffing, sneezing)
more than 35 languages (inc. French, Italian, German, Arabic, Portuguese, Indonesian, Polish, Slovak, Vietnamese, Hungarian, Finnish, Hindi, Hebrew, Czech and many more)
This is such a fun book and I'm looking forward to sharing it with as many of you as possible.

- International Tea and Coffee Mugs Ceramic, microwave-safe mugs with cute designs of tea and coffee in different languages all over them.

A starring role in the book
This book features a lot of people making a lot of sounds, and you could be one of them! Send me a photo and I'll recreate you as a character in the Soundimals style to live on through every print of this book. (There are ten sounds to choose from, and they're chosen on a first come first served basis, so get in early! I'll contact you soon after the donation)
(There will be a survey at the end of the campaign so you can specify what colour bags and specifically what you might like sketched in your book, so you've got a while to think it over)
Also, if you want to buy in bulk for distribution, there's a reward tier for you. Get your hands on ten copies of How to Sneeze in Japanese, without the other rewards.
The sounds are currently being double-checked, and once the new illustrations are in everything should be good to go. The aim is to start shipping in the middle of October, so these books should definitely be with you before Christmas if all goes to plan.

Risks and challenges
The book is around 90% finished, aside from a few characters that I'm waiting to include (based on some of you hopefully), so production can begin as soon as possible once the campaign is over.
The printers (Comic Printing UK) have been chosen based on their incredible reputation in the independent book community, so high quality can be ensured on the final product.
Shipping all of these books/prints/bags/mugs isn't easy, but I've been running my own online shop for a few years now and it's definitely something I can handle with a few trips to the post office.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
