Post KS Update #3: Contentious Icons, Rulebook, Demo Day
Welcome to the new year! 2016 will be a big year for Lunarchitects, and we're busy working hard to get it in your hands.
Remember those contentious icons we took a poll about, back in Update #8? And the "activate other" icon that was still a WIP? Here is a preview of those icons on their blueprint tiles, as well as a few other tweaked icons. I'm now very happy with how clear they all have become, easily differentiated at a distance.
Over 100 backers responded to last update's poll, and just about 75% of respondents preferred to have two languages other than English included in the rulebook (while also translating the backstory and including additional play examples for all languages). This doesn't surprise me as probably most of the 75% US-based backers wouldn't have a need for the other languages, so that lines up with the results, but isn't conclusive. What does finalize this decision for me is the poll results for WHAT languages to include:
Clearly German and French were the most requested (Germany and France were the top two non-English-speaking backer countries), but the next most-requested language is a much closer result, with three within a few votes of each other. There is no clear 3rd language.
So with these results, everyone will see a 24-page rulebook that includes 8 pages for each of English, German, and French. Other languages will likely see pdf translations, but the timeline for those is TBD.
Call for German/French proof-readers: before going to press, I would love to have many eyes on the German/French language sections of the rulebook. I already have a German translation in process and a translator lined up for the French, but more readers are always better. My timeline is to finish edits to English this week, and then give translators two more weeks after that—which means by the end of January final checking of all rulebook languages will start, with feedback due the middle of February. If you are interested in volunteering to proof the German or French, please add your email to this form.
All End-Game Scoring Schemes (now up to 12!) are 95% finalized after extensive testing over the holiday. I will give details on them in the coming weeks, but I'd love to offer an opportunity to demo everything (and hopefully-final graphics) at I'm Board in Middleton, WI on Saturday, January 23rd from 12-5pm. They are hosting a local game designer day event (with designers of such games as Scoville, Dead Men Tell No Tales, Nanuk, Bullfrogs, and Copper Country), and I will be there demoing all day. Join me to play some great games, and meet some awesome people!
Thanks again for all your interest and support—Lunarchitects is a great game and I'm so happy that I can share it with you.
