I was sitting at a bar perusing the cocktail list when I came across Rock and Rye; resurrected from the late 1800s it blended rock sugar and spices with young rye whiskey to make it more palatable. An old recipe that had been lost for decades but now making a comeback with the benefits of modern bartending methods.
Well that sounded just fine, so I ordered one and immediately fell in love - hard. This was Christmas in a glass, it was fresh from the oven baking, all with the bracing warmth and nuanced flavours of whiskey. After ordering another I teased enough information out of the bartender to begin attempting to perfect the recipe for this magical concoction at home. It was a journey that would take more time and effort than I ever imagined.
I'll admit, some of the work was quite enjoyable, tasting batch after batch, adding a bit more of this, a little less of that. But scouring the markets of Singapore for the best ingredients and striving to achieve the perfect balance were exhaustive searches. Friends and family gamely took package after package to try it themselves and offer feedback.
Now, it is ready. With your support the first commercial batch of Rock and Rye will be prepared and shipped. The small scale test kitchen has been effective to this point but your support will allow it to be taken to the next level. Purchasing in large qualities will allow for volume discounts to keep the price down, a production run of thousands will do the same, and more customers will allow me to secure warehouse and shipping services that again save money and increase efficiencies.
**Please note that there is no alcohol provided in the rewards. This is a blend of citrus, spices and rock sugar that will infuse a bottle of whiskey that YOU provide. Ok, legal caveats covered, please proceed...
In time for the holidays Rock and Rye will be produced and shipped around the world, happiness will spread like wildfire and world peace will finally arrive. High hopes? Maybe. But this is a damn fine drink, I wouldn't be surprised.
I'm also supporting http://kickingitforward.org, 5% of my profits from the project will be put towards other Kickstarter campaigns to help them reach their goals.
Thank you for reading and thank you very much if you have chosen to support the project. I'd be honoured if you would share this idea on your page as well.
Risks and challenges
Risks for this project are fairly minimal to start with and we've worked to eliminate them as much as possible. We have suppliers lined up for all of our spices as well as printing and packaging partners. A space has been secured for assembly and our order fulfilment partner is ready to ship when we reach our goal. The rewards will be delivered in time for Christmas or your money back; they make perfect stocking stuffers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
