Studying Fashion Technology and Design blessed me with an artistic outlet and endless inspiration. It also opened my eyes to the negative side of the fashion industry. Disposable "fast fashion" is wasteful and corporate mandates often adversely disregard the environment and promote worker exploitation. On the positive side, the textile and clothing manufacturing is slowly making it's way back to North America. Operating locally oversight of environmental impacts and assure safe and fair working conditions for our communities.
Aparent is created for the conscious consumer who wants to express his individual flair while supporting ethical manufacturing. Currently, my hoodies are made of new and up-cycled materials. With a successful Kickstarter campaign I will be able to research different fabric sourcing avenue. For example, buying off-cuts from textile manufacturers to help reduce their waste. Also, all my sewing supplies such as snaps, zips, and threads will be sourced and produced in North America as much as possible.
All my hoodies are made with pre-shrunk fabric and sewn at a very high standard.
Each Aparent creation will be unique. Offering three basic fits, which differ for men and women, a zip up, a pull over and a long slim fit pull over. Each hoody is customized starting with the fabric choice or theme which kickstarts the inspiration. Fabric fascinates me and I like to explore with different types of material that wouldn't usually be used on a hoody. Most of my creations have special features such as hidden pockets or thumbholes.
Making clothing in a sensible way and seeing smiles on people's face wearing my hoodies is the biggest gift in the world! It makes my heart want to explode in a good way. With your help, I can get Aparent up and running this year!

Risks and challenges
With this project I don't see many obstacle that will slow me down or stop me from launching Aparent on December 1st. I am creating each piece myself which will avoid any manufacturing delays, and I am sourcing all of my fabric locally. The rewards stickers and t-shirts are made here in Revelstoke and will be created as soon as the campaign is over if successfully funded.
My biggest challenge with Aparent is to make affordable garments while staying true to my values. I am passionate about what I do and I will find solutions to any obstacles coming my way.
