Greetings! Hope everyone is doing well and having cheerful time!
At first, I want to deeply apologize that I haven't update the news about Flying Alone for a long while. Few months ago, I moved to New York and tried to settle everything down. I got a bit overwhelmed in the beginning, but now things are getting better and smooth. ;)
Just really wanna share many exciting news with you! Flying Alone album turned out very well with wonderful reviews and awards! Last week I am informed that Flying Alone got nominated by the biggest music award in Taiwan( The 24th Annual Golden Melody Award) for the Best Performance Album of the Year and the Best Composer Award.
Besides, I got invited to do an interview for All About Jazz blog. The interview talked about my music background, influences, and how this album came together. Of course, there is an important paragraph about Kickstarter project and all of you!! http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=44513&pg=3#.UZti481P2jQ
Here are also some reviews for the album! You can find the complete articles at Downbeat Magazine April issue and All About Jazz Blog.
Each tune of Flying Alone, the debut album from Taiwanese vibraphonist Yuhan Su, has a distinct personality. Yuhan's compositions are tied together by intelligence, sensitivity and a haunting sense of tenderness. They're clearly cut from the same cloth. -- Brad Farberman, Downbeat Magazine
This delightful and intellectually satisfying record is the mature work of a young and singular composer and vibraphone virtuoso. It is also, hopefully, the foundation of a brilliant career that will rank with the likes of Walt Dickerson and Bobby Hutcherson. - HRAYR ATTARIAN, All About Jazz
All are refreshingly subtle, consisting of long melodic lines rather than the tight snappy riffs produced by many writers who have been taught composition in college. Their freshness and lack of clichés makes them sound like the work of a more mature composer and promises much for the future from Su. - John Eyles, All About Jazz
Su impresses as a composer and leader as much as a soloist on this highly impressive debut. Sophisticated yet accessible, rooted in the tradition and yet refreshingly contemporary, Flying Alone announces a bright new talent who has the potential to become one of the leading vibraphone voices in modern jazz. -- IAN PATTERSON, All About Jazz
It's been a very wide journey making this album. I can't express how lucky I am to being supported to fulfill my dream and bring this music to life. And all this wonderful things came unexpectedly. My gratitude is beyond words. I sincerely feel blessed.
If any of you is around New York, I'm having a concert for my group this Thursday June 6th 9:30pm at a great music venue ShapeShifter Lab. I would like to sincerely invite you to this very special event for me. I'll play music from Flying Alone album and also a lot new music I wrote.
At last, my deepest thank you to everybody! I can't have all this priceless gift without you.
