About this project
The Birch SPRIG is an ultralight Teardrop Camper kit. The SPRIG was designed for simple assembly on a lightweight chassis and can be easily moved by hand and towed behind just about anything with a tow-hitch.
Our comprehensive kit includes 51 precision cut wood pieces, windows, screens, seals, and hardware required to assemble the camper. We use CNC machining to ensure optimal fitment. Our SPRIGbuilder’s manual, web forum, and videos provide clear step-by-step detail for each step of the process.
The camper is designed to be assembled with no additional fabrication, and no costly tools are required beyond a socket set, caulk gun and a power drill with various bits. More detail on included and required items is listed in our FAQ.

Join us for a SPRIG buildathon! You'll get to see the complete camper creation process as we put together our instructional video. We will start with some donuts and coffee, go through the kit contents, and assemble the camper body in the morning. After a catered lunch, we will work on adding trim pieces and the finishing process. We look forward to hearing about your ideas for camper builds as you get some hands-on experience to help you take your SPRIG from crate to campsite.
Take your SPRIG Offroad!-Our latest development, includes a strengthened chassis, skid plates, independent axles, wide fenders and an upgraded structure.
We're only planning 4 builds for the rest of the year...our limited-edition, tricked-out Carbon Fiber SPRIGs. We're wrapping up our first build now.
We've decided to keep our first Carbon Fiber model, but we're going to let go of our tester models to make room for future builds. Full info here.
Thanks Kickstarters! We are raising funds on Kickstarter in order to streamline our production process and minimize material expenses with a large order from our suppliers. Proceeds will be reinvested into making assembly videos and future kit developments.
Special thanks to Mike and Matt for photo and design work. Big shout out to Shane Daniels for video direction and editing. Thanks to my friends and family for tolerating my "inventiveness".
Extra Special thanks to my lovely assistant, Kim!
Risks and challenges
We have been developing our SPRIG kit for a few years, so we're confident that the product is ready to go. We are planning to start slowly on our production and ramp up after we get the initial orders on the way to their builders. We're also limiting the total number of kits on our initial production run.
We are teaming with NEXTFAB, who provide the makerspace for our machining operations. They also can provide contract services to help fulfill orders on time.
We're excited to see our campers on the road, and we hope to develop a tight-knit community of builders. We plan to kick that off by sharing regular updates on the production process and by collaborating with our local builders to share their own builds.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
