Lache FM has been successfully broadcasting via the internet for over 8 years. We’re now ready to take the next step and become Chester’s Community Radio Station. We need the support of Chester residents and the Kickstarter community to make this happen.
About this project
Lache FM as a community radio project started life in 2007 as a temporary event with a small group of enthusiastic volunteers. Hawthorn House Lache has been our home since 2013 where we have a small recording studio. From here we broadcast every Tuesday and Thursday via the internet to listeners throughout Chester and surrounding areas.
Our aim has always been to celebrate the people, music and culture within our Chester community. Our radio show’s aim to provide Chester with a community radio station like no other. Playing an eclectic mix of music, from chart pop to roots reggae and everything in between, including music from the finest Chester bands and artists. We also aim to spark interest and entertain through the variety of diverse specialist shows we produce, including our Schools Out show delivered by our junior journalist team, the Sanjhi Indian music show, Chester’s own LGBT radio show and our monthly Ear of the Tiger music panel show.
We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved so far:
Over 200 local people have presented shows live on air
Our youngest presenter is 8 years old
Our oldest presenter is 81
We’ve conducted over 100 interviews with members of community groups, charities and local organisations
Over 50 local bands and musicians have been interviewed and performed live
We play music from Chester artists every day we broadcast
We’ve reached over 6000 online listeners
We have over 2800 social media followers
The Lache FM project was initially established to engage and train the Lache community with broadcasting and media production skills. The project offers some great volunteering opportunities with many of those involved finding it offers a therapeutic, educational and work experience environment.Over the years the station has evolved to become a vibrant hub where local people from throughout Chester come together to learn and grow, while entertaining and sharing their own individual blend of music, chat, news and ideas.
So we now feel it’s time to expand and become Chester’s Community Radio Station with a new station name – Flipside. We want to launch Flipside via a live 4 day through the radio broadcast on Thurs 23rd- Sunday 26th April 2015. This ensures that everyone can hear our shows through their home, office or car radio on 90.2 FM as well as via the internet.
Our 4 day extravaganza will run for 24 hours a day. This comes at a cost. Our existing funding streams only just cover our current operating costs. For anything in addition, we need to fund raise ourselves. Our funding goal, if achieved, will pay for the licence and the running costs of our 4 day 90.2 FM radio broadcast.
So Why Pledge?
Community radio enables content to be delivered that’s often over looked by commercial or mass media radio stations. Our station is unique for Chester, we give much needed attention to local charities, small businesses, community groups, Chester music – and music of all genres, Chester history, local views and many local initiatives that may not gain the audience they deserve. Help us to build further a community network through the power of radio – you will be part of it all by supporting Flipside.
To help us achieve our funding goal we’ve come up with some fun ‘Perks’ to entice you to support us – and join us! Your pledge will go directly to funding our April radio broadcast.
Thank you for reading about our Kickstarter. We really appreciate it.
Risks and challenges
Kickstarter is a risk – we don’t receive a penny until the goal is achieved. It’s a risk we’re willing to take to gain exposure for ourselves and the charities, music and community groups we promote.
Our dedicated volunteers, in addition to delivering hours of great radio, have over the years fund raised tirelessly for us. Wearing the Lionel the Lion outfit all day outside supermarkets in the rain with buckets is always a firm favourite!? So with a new future as Flipside a new approach to fundraising seemed the right thing to do.
We would love and desperately need your involvement – go on make a pledge – help us make Chester’s Community Radio Station, Flipside, a sound alternative for Chester.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
