We are a luxury leather brand that makes bags for big weekends. We're inspired by Maximón, a loose living bad boy from Guatemalan folklore and Latin America's flair for a good night out.
One fine day when the villagers were hard at work in the fields, Maximón slept with their wives. All of them. When the villagers got home and discovered his crime they cut off his arms and legs.
Something truly terrible must have happened afterwards, because these days he’s venerated throughout the country as a kind of malevolent saint. Worshippers offer cash, liquor and tobacco in exchange for favours, requests for success at someone else's expense or often just to keep him on side.
Some say he’s Saint Simon, although the Catholic Church wants nothing to do with him. Some say he’s the pre-Colombian god Mam. Still others say his name is a compound of Simón and 'max', a Mayan word for the tobacco so dear to his heart. Whether he’s a god, a saint, an addict or just a bully, there’s no denying Maximón’s a badass.
Our playful attitude may have fooled you, but when it comes to leather we're as serious as a hangover in Ciudad Juárez.
All of our bags are made from deluxe, locally tanned top-grain hides and use YKK zips and heavy gauge hardware. If you don't pace yourself, they'll outlast you.
They are available in chocolate brown, tan and black:
And you can choose from our three signature linings, hand woven on backstrap looms in Nahualá.
Our artisans have spent decades with a hide in their hands: cutting, stitching, huffing its delicious aroma. They spend more than five hours putting each of our weekenders together. We tried a lot of other providers before we settled on these guys. They're gold standard.
Our bags combine a classic, minimalist look with perforated leather feature pockets. Each of them takes more than five hours and hundreds of steps to put together.
Compared with other bags of equivalent size and quality, we're confident ours are a steal. We can pull this off because we're not greedy and we've cut the fat off our cost base. See the reward tabs on the right for prices.
Our goal is $32,500 Australian dollars, or about US$23,000. This number is based on our manufacturer's minimum production quantity for a first run! If we don't hit it we won't receive a single dollar. So please get behind the project!
