CYRUS WARD: Edge of Darkness is a murder mystery thriller, with a touch of noir and sci-fi rolled in.
This adult theme graphic novel, takes the reader down a dark road and doesn't let them go until the last frame.
Cyrus Ward is a down and out homicide detective, who after being forced to retire, is called back years later to help investigate serial killer who is copying a notorious serial killer from his past. Reluctantly Cyrus returns only to discover, that this killer is taunting him and playing a game of cat and mouse. The deeper down the rabbit hole he goes, the closer he gets to the truth...a truth that will change him forever.
What makes this story different?
This is not just a crime story. This is a psychological thriller with a Sci-Fi twist. This story will take you place that you never saw coming.
CYRUS WARD: Edge Of Darkness takes place in the not so distant future of 2026. The one time glorious Manhattan has been transformed into someplace dark and seedy. A part of it, is underwater due to the tsunami of 2018, while the rest has become the breeding ground for the underbelly of society.
Across the river, in what was once Brooklyn, lives (if we can use that term) a society of robots. It is a total contrast to Manhattan, clean, shiny and filled with the best technology the world has to offer. Although Robot City plays a small role in the story, a few of its inhabitants do leave a major impact on the life of Cyrus Ward.
And who is Cyrus Ward?
Cyrus, a retired special crimes detective that focused on serial killers, wants nothing to do with his old life...a life that cost him an eye as well as everyone that ever mattered to him. So when the department comes to him for assistance, he is extremely reluctant, until he discovers that case involves a copy cat serial killer who seems to know everything about him as well as the that of the original killer (whom Cyrus had killed years earlier).
With the help of a female detective and a watcher robot from his past, Cyrus will discover a dark truth that will force him to face his own demons.
CYRUS WARD: Edge of Darkness
The story will be told in 2 beautiful illustrated parts (part 1 and Part 2). Each part will be roughly 50 to 60 pages and in FULL COLOR.

Who is involved in the project.
MAURICE W (screenplay writer/author/lover of comics and graphic novels)
My time working on Law&Order really enhanced my story telling especially where it concerns dark and gritty crime lore. This is a character driven, dark story with twists and turns that are guaranteed to keep the reader on the edge of their seat.
YURIY FIALKO (award winning artist)
Yuriy made a name for himself designing and executing tattoos, before displaying his talent in the graphic arts field. Over the past few years, he has won several awards and has worked on many high profile projects. He has always had a love for story telling and totally clicked with the story of Cyrus Ward.
one look at some of his artwork is all one needs see to know that this will be one beautiful looking book.
How a page comes together...
Artist YURIY FIALKO's thoughts on illustrating Cyrus Ward.
"I didn't have to read much of the script to realize that Cyrus Ward was a bad ass. That's how I pictured him anyway. Given his environment and life experience (losing an eye) Cyrus has been molded into a tough-as-nails detective... and he's also somewhat of a ladies man. The overall atmosphere of his world is very Blade-Runner-esque but also a lot darker... like Miller's Sin City. I suppose you could say that Cyrus' disposition exists somewhere in between Sin City's Marv and Blade Runner's Deckard. I wanted Cyrus to be easy on the eyes but by no means a pretty boy. His hair is a mess and is almost always soaking up rain water or some kind of liquid. The story doesn't take place far enough into the future to allow for extremely outlandish fashion so instead I focused on lifestyles. The drug culture is ever present in the background of Cyrus' environment for which reason I opted for a more vibrant color palette."
WHAT WE WANT THE MONEY FOR
We are hoping to raise around $30,000. We started off asking for $10,000 and hopefully we will be able to add some stretch goal with some very wicked rewards. The money we receive will be used to complete art production and to publish a deluxe Limited hard cover Edition of part 1 and part2 with a super deluxe Hardcover edition collecting the whole series in one volume.
Roughly half of that budget goes to our art team. The other half covers high quality papers and printing costs. I get get zero (0) dollars until everyone has been paid, and you have gotten your copies and rewards.
The entire run will be paid for by the Kickstarter campaign. Whatever issues we don't distribute directly to you, our Kickstarter supporters, will be sold in person during our worldwide 2013-14 convention tour, or through a website managed directly by us. The Kickstarter campaign only covers this Limited Edition run. Based on our success here, we'll be publishing a TBP to be launched at next summer's San Diego Comic Con as well as setting up an ongoing Cyrus Ward book. From there, we'll adapt the story for the Silver Screen. (we actually have interest in a film version of this story)
We can't do this without you.
We are going to publish this book regardless, however without you and your pledges, it will be a very hard and difficult road. Hurricane Sandy hurt us bad, but we refuse to stop pushing forward.
Anything I can do to help?
After you support us, we would love if you helped spread the word. Email, Facebook, Twitter - whatever you prefer!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION!
I sincerely hope you enjoy the book and eventually the series as much as I do, because they say when you create something it should be something you yourself would love to see or read. For me, CYRUS WARD: Edge Of Darkness is just that.
FOR ANYONE WHO PLEDGES OVER $50, YOU WILL RECEIVE BOTH BOOKS AND A DIGITAL POSTER REGARDLESS OF IF WE GET FUNDED OR NOT. (BUT OF COURSE THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU WE WILL GET FUNDED).
Cyrus Ward Creator Talks Graphic Novel and Movie Industry Interest as Well as Gives Sneak Peek
With the upcoming Summer release of the "Cyrus Ward:Edge of Darkness" Graphic Novel, Creator Maurice W gives us a sneak peek as well as shares his thoughts on the project and talks about how Studios in Hollywood are already talking about making it a movie.
"I have always been a fan of noir-ish detective novels, as well as murder mystery thrillers, Sci-fi, and of course comic books. I had just come off what will be a somewhat high profile film project and was finding myself really wanting to write what I love. Cyrus Ward was born out of that."
He continued to mention that as he was writing the Graphic novel, he had pitched the concept to several film companies as well.
"Being that I write scripts, I approached this as if it was going to be a film and graphic novel type of project, Kind of like
how Mark Miller did with Kick-Ass and his other properties. Several studios have shown interest, some more than others. I guess we will have to see what happens once the Graphic Novel is released, but The interest is there."
Risks and challenges
Hurricane Sandy did a job on us. Financially it hurt us in indescribable ways. However the show must go on.
Sandy slowed us down somewhat but thanks to people like you, she didn't stop or destroy us...at least she won't thanks to people like you.
We have amazing stories to tell and simply want to get them into the hands of those that love to be swept away into worlds unlike their own. worlds filled with drama, action and thrills.
We've scheduled everything for 2013 and are trying to anticipate all contingencies, but there are sure to be minor hiccups along the way. In any case, we’ll stay in contact during the whole process and keep you updated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
