About

Flux at Box 5 premiered at the Guild 5 Forty Five on August 26th and 27th of 2016. Both performances sold out and where highly acclaimed as one of the summer's most visceral, intriguing and luxuriously sexy dance/performance art pieces in SoFlo. The impetus behind the project has always been to submerge the world of dance, creative arts, music and design in a gallery setting. With the intrinsic use of the white box studio in order to create a surrealist environment, Flux takes the viewer on a multi-media escape where several layers of inclusive art genres are merged in order to create a truly sensory driven experience for the audience.

My choreography has always been slightly influenced by my art historical background and a deeply rooted foundation in ballet and modern dance. Studying painting, performance art, photography and videography has given me an in depth process to dance curation where the involvement of other genres create refinement and ambiance within the scope of the work ( a truly unique approach to dance making). Assembling one of the most technically proficient cast of dancers to include a very special young performance artist only 10 years old and an artistically accomplished and highly innovative team has also been a part of the allure of the project. Kim Grijalva, Artistic Director of the Stella Group serving as set designer, renoun Oceon Drive Maganzine photographer Gary James as head photographer and videographer, Florida Grand Opera's Autumm Suna as stylist and make-up artist, and myself Agatha Wright as Artistic Director and Choreographer.

Our ultimate goal is to continue to grow Flux at Box 5 as a happening of sorts. Additional funding will assist in the purchase of costumes, dancers fees and set design. We hope to continue showing Flux at additional galleries and eventually museums. The mission of Flux is to present dance curations in locations where dance is often disenfranchised and to audiences who are generally exposed to other art forms.

Risks and challenges

The challange with Flux is to duplicate it on a stage versus a gallery. Being that it has been specifically choreographed and curated to be displayed in a gallery or museum if performances arise on standard stages we would have to modify the work in regards to set design. Nonetheless, the pieces of Flux can be performed anywhere and as individual works regardless of the white box.

On the contratry, being that our target demographic does (galleries and museums) provide spaces where the piece could be staged "as it was" originally makes this project low risk.

Flux at Box 5 has been developed as a 30 minute performance piece. Currently, rehearsals are continuing in order to add an additional 30 minutes to the work. Within the next few months Flux will become a full eveings performance/curation but it can be shown as. To date there are a total of 7 individual pieces that devise Flux. This project does not require approval from pre-market sales companies or agencies.
