Social media has become an important part of our daily lives. It helps people communicate in new ways and enables us to share moments and stories that would once have been nothing more than a memory. But social media can still do more for you, more to help you grow. And most importantly, more to help you to reach your goals. Which is why we're proud to introduce the first edition of Goalmate.
Goalmate is a social media app that helps you track and share your goals. While we set goals for ourselves daily, they often get pushed to the side and put on the back burner of our busy lives. Goalmate however allows your story to grow. Your posts, whether they be text or statistics, are strung together to form one overarching story. These strings allow you to keep track of every step of your goal as you strive toward it. You can see your improvements quickly and easily.
The reason we have created Goalmate as a social media app is simple: We want people to not only grow themselves, but to help each other grow. We want you to be proud of what you are trying to accomplish. One of our biggest goals is to get users to encourage each other, to offer advice on how to best achieve what they’re hoping to do.
What's in Goalmate
The first page you’ll visit is the Feed. The Feed will display the posts of the people you follow as well as your own. Here you can click on a post to comment on it, like it and thanks to strings, you can sift through the entire story that the post is a part of. You’re always encouraged to give your friends some support and something as simple as liking their post can show them you appreciate their hard work.
If you’re interested in seeing what other people are working on, you can head over to the Discovery page. Here you can discover posts that are relevant to your own goals and interests. We think that seeing people working on similar goals will help you get a better idea of how to pursue yours. On top of that, the Discovery page can help you find new people to follow and hopefully inspire you to take on a task you may have never thought about pursuing.
Next up is the Homepage, which is where you can find in one place all the stories and goals you’ve been working on. On top of scrolling through your stories, or those of somebody else’s profile, you can look through followers, recent activities and edit your settings.
One of the coolest parts of the Homepage is the “Stories” tab. This tab will allow you to look through all of your posts in chronological order. This is where the string concept really comes into play. Other social networks have individual stories that eventually get lost in the past. With Goalmate however your whole story is strung together neatly. Whether it be a month long project or a goal that will be years in the making, it all can be easily followed and looked back upon.
How to get started
When you first open Goalmate, you’ll definitely want to get started on your goals. As such, creating your story has been made as simple as possible. Just click on the posting button in the top-right corner of the app and you’ll be able to create your first goal.
At this point, you probably have a good idea of what you want to work on. So give your story a title. It can be something fun or just something describing the goal itself. You then have the option of adding a category to your story that will make it easy for people working on similar goals to connect with each other. Finally, if your goal is one that requires statistics, you can input the types of things that you will want to keep track of. Your story is now ready to go, and you can begin writing your posts and inputting your statistics.
Your story itself will be found on your homepage, and all of your future stories will also be found there too. The ones that are most recently updated will appear at the top, making it convenient to continuously update your stories. Whenever you’re ready to start working on your story, just give it a click and you’ll be able to either write a post or input stats. Every single post you make matters, and they will all be strung together in chronological order. This allows you to view your story as a whole, which ensures that you’ll never forget anything you’ve done and it will make it easy to pick up right where you left off the last time you worked on your goal.
What we hope to add to Goalmate
We want to add a content feature which will allow you to post videos, pictures and audio clips! We think that this will be a great addition as it can really help people visualize what you’re working on. For example, if you’re trying to learn to play guitar you can actually let people hear how much you have improved. Or if you’re working on improving your cooking you could share a photo of a dish you created.
Next up, we are planning out a website for Goalmate. This will allow users to use the app from not only phones, but their desktops too. Having a website also allows even more users to start working on their goals, which is always a great thing!
On top of the aforementioned things we plan to bring to Goalmate, we also would like to give you a better overall experience. We intend on making the design even more user friendly while also adding features that we believe will make the app easier to use. On top of that we will tweak any current concerns users may have with the app and of course we are always open to feedback.
New Design - $4,500
Photos - $375
Portrait Mode - $1,500
Advanced Stat Customization - $3,000
Website with integrated functionality- $4,000
The great thing about Goalmate is that it can be catered to whatever wants and needs you have. If you only want to use it to track the numbers of a dieting goal then you can do just that. If your goal involves learning a language then you may want to focus more on the text part of things by posting updates in the language you are working on. You set your own goals, and no matter how big or how small, you are the one that decides when you’ve achieved them and how you want go about it.
Now you may still have a few questions, and of course you can email us at Goalmateapp@gmail.com if we haven’t answered them here. What we want to make sure you do know is that your goals are our goals, and the more people that strive to better themselves the more we feel like we’ve succeeded.
Any contribution helps, even if it is just downloading our current version of the app. Working to grow yourself is reward enough for us, and we'd be proud to see people use the app to help themselves succeed. We hope with all your help that we can make Goalmate an even greater and more fulfilling experience.
Risks and challenges
Luckily Goalmate is already a fully functional app that can be used to help you right away. What that means is that there are no risks to donating to Goalmate. We believe in it strongly and that’s why we put so much into the project to begin with. This is just our first version of the app and with your help we can make it even better and you can rest assured that every dollar we receive will be spent on helping you reach your goals. Even now we are working on making Goalmate better and in the coming weeks you will continue to see those improvements.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
