The safest, cool-ink 3D pen
Making a safe 3D Pen for everyone including children
The 3D printing pens currently available in the market aren't easy to operate and safe — take for example, all pens using ABS/PLA materials that give off unpleasant odors and the risks of getting burned by high temperatures. By addressing the aspects of safety and convenience we developed a pen that uses photo-polymer as ink, which solidifies under the LED light.How POLYES Q1 Works:

Do you want to play tic-tac-toe without having to waste paper every other game? You can draw the grid and symbols in minutes. You can even color-code them.
Are you the sort of person who likes to think big? Are you a fan of architecture maybe? You can build anything from a small house outline to the Medieval Castle!
Cool & Multi-functional inks
Since Polyes is all about being hands-on and inventive, we've managed to create several different types of inks, with more to come. Popular options besides the different regular colors include the glow-in-the-dark, aromatic, transparent, and temperature-changing.
Why We Are Raising Funds:
We are raising funds in order to get market validation as well as quick feedback that will help to expedite our research & development. As soon as we get our first early bird orders filled up, we will be ready to begin production.
We are also developing more ink options for you, and making them work perfectly with blue LED needs more efforts from our R&D team. Besides, to make Polyes more user-friendly, we want to listen to all your suggestions, and there will be more from the Polyes Series coming up!

Is the light safe to use?
The wavelength of blue light we use is 460nm, which is recognized as visible light, and commonly used in our daily life. The definition of UV (Ultraviolet) light is "electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength from 10 nm to 400 nm" ( see wikipedia), but the wavelength of "UV" light we use is between 400 nm and 410 nm, and in which case, we couldn't find a name but "UV". Actually, it belongs to the visible spectrum, and should be called " Indigo-Violet" Light? Every time you saw traffic lights or Christmas lights, you are looking at regular LEDs that use visible light, which are the exactly the same things we use here.
The light in the pen is pointing downwards towards the tip and does not shine into the user’s eyes while using. Also, the concave pen tip will help focus the light.
Regular LEDs are exempt from certification/regulation by the US Food & Drugs Administration, because they are used everywhere instead of laser equipment.
Risks and challenges
Sure, we know that it's a bit bulky, but being the first SAFE 3D pen that uses cool ink, we're bound to have some kinks to work out. We will continue to speed up the R&D process to keep iterating on the design and make it sleeker and improve the overall user experience.
1) Battery: We can't have our batteries customized in small quantities, but with your help, we can make it.
2) Ink Cartridge: To make ink cartridges that can be stored for longer time without having the ink solidified, we are still working on it, our current ink is guaranteed for 6 month stocking.
3) Ink: Different colors or functions of inks. We have to make sure that the LED works fine with all kinds of inks, without having to sacrifice the solidification effect.
4) Changing Out Cartridge: How to change the ink cartridge in an easiest way? We have now come up with the solution that only by twisting can you break the pen into two parts.
The last topic to address is shipping. We have backed some projects on other crowd-funding websites and met many delays too, so we created a special supervising system to ensure the timeline of the manufacturing and shipping process. We have been through a really hard time, but we finally made it! The color options will be the same for both pens! And we are working on the transparent ink also, hope it won't a problem before we make the delivery.
The outflow speed is different, depending on the tip you choose, and the continuous outflow time for each cartridge to be about 15-25 min.
The battery life depends on the modes you choose. If you choose the light mode, the battery life is approximately 4-5 hours. If you choose the light & ink mode, the battery life is about 1.5 hours. And the stand-by time can reach 3-5 days.
It takes about 2 hours to charge.
Absolutely! Polyes Q1 could be shipped to any country in the world. Free shipping to the U.S., and for other countries, will range from $10 to $25.
The shipping time of the first batch is February 2015, and the estimated delivery time differs from countries and regions.
It is really easy to change out cartridges. Simply twist the pen open, remove the cartridge and replace with a new one. A tutorial video will be released soon.
The ink should be kept in a cool and dark place.
As the traditional light-curing material, UV light-curing inks are variable and easy to be developed. This October, blue LED was awarded Nobel prize and our R&D members were greatly inspired by its potential value.
In nearly two-month tests on blue light sources, we were trying to equip the blue LED with more options in its ink colors and functions, such as the flexible ink. So technically speaking, our R&D members think that blue light has more chances than UV light in the future.
By the way, our R&D members are big fans of emerging technologies. They are always crazy for it and trying to apply these new techs to create some fancy gadgets.
Yes, it is possible. We plan on cooperating with local distributors in different countries to sell Polyes Q1 and its inks, and then you can buy our inks as well as other parts in your own country.
Polyes applies LED technology: safe, reliable and eco-friendly. It is not hot at all, other 3D printing pens hit 500 Fahrenheit degrees when in use.
Yes. We adopt USB charging for Polyes Q1, so it is cordless that can be used everywhere. A cable is included in the package for charging.
We are still testing tips of different diameters, ranging from 0.7-3 mm, and we are gonna post recent updates if we have exact data once we finish the test. Each package will come with (at least) two different tips for users to choose,and with one cartridges, you can print 12-25 meters, depending on your tip model and outflow speed.
