RoomCentral is a plug in controller that controls your old room heaters (and room air conditioners in the summer time) to save you energy through a smart phone or tablet. RoomCentral is an electronic device that connects to room heaters or air conditioners with mechanical controls to maintain the right temperature in a given space. A 10 ft sensor measures temperatures in air or water. It comes with a free app for your Android or iPhone/iPad.
What RoomCentral does…..
RoomCentral “plays well in the sandbox” with a variety of room heaters, air conditioners and other heating and cooling devices. It will help you control devices acting as a programmable thermostat which will help keep a consistent temperature in a given environment while reducing your energy bill.
RoomCentral supports:new low cost,more mature heaters and room air conditioners as well as any device with mechanical heating or cooling controls.
Energy savings-saving you money so the heater or air conditioner is not on when you are not there. This helps RoomCentral “pay its way “ in a small amount of time.

Easy to use app interface- (7) day a week controls. Reminds you of the programmable thermostats you have seen-nothing too fancy;it has a solid, easy-to-understand user interface.

Works with 2 and 3 prong outlets-we designed it for BOTH higher current draw space heaters (up to 15A) as well as A/C devices
Wide temperature range- -67° to 250°F (-55° to 121°C) control; it understand both Fahrenheit and Celsius!
Flexible to get temperature readings from across the room-not just at the controller. We made the temperature sensor so that you could connect it to different lengths from the unit (25 feet max). This will help you sense the temperature in tough locations such as remote lakes, ponds and swimming pools. Many of the things that the RoomCentral is controlling already have a thermostat. If the temperature sensor of your current controller is in a tough area like near an outside window, the rest of the room may be too warm or way to cool!
Battery back up in case of power outage
It would be a pain to reprogram the controller if the power failed. RoomCentral has your program saved in the app.

The temperature sensor can withstand the temperature rage cited and can be used in wet environments (the sensor/cable portion). If you allow us to hit the $74,300 mark we will develop this product such that it can be used along with your rice cooker as a cost-effective sous-vide cooker (typically $350+!) .
If you rears us with $82,200 mark we will develop the software right away to include a power monitoring feature in order to see how the connected load is consuming is consuming power.
Finally for your $87,460 commitment we will have a SMT reflow oven (typically $300 and up) application in which you can control the profile through your smart phone and plug in a simple toaster oven to the RoomCentral. No extra relays to hard wire. Just attach your thermocouple and off you go! This is great for building your PCB prototypes!
Q: How do use RoomCentrl(TM) as a sous-vide cooker?
Using your RoomCentral(TM) and a rice cooker you can create a sous-vide cooker. Put the temp sensor in to the water bath of the rice cooker. Plug the rice cooker in to RoomCentral(TM) and then plug the RoomCentral(TM) in to an outlet. Pick your temperature and run the app.
Risks and challenges
During the last months we have worked extensively on research and testing of all aspects around the PCB board and its enclosure. Most of our suppliers have already made commitments about volumes and lead times but there is always a chance of deviation, resulting in an overall delay of production. We will start pre-ordering components as soon as the campaign is successful.
Another aspect is the diverse quantity of smartphones around the world. We are already compatible with a large number of smartphones due to our experience with the Sous-vide Cooking App. If your phone is a recent model, produced by a known manufacturer, you will most likely have no issues using our app. However, there is a slight possibility that your specific model might need some changes in the code. We will do our best to address these issues as quickly as possible, as they come to our attention. Any feedback is highly appreciated
During the last 3 years our team has gained a lot of experience in terms of hardware and software development, manufacturing and operations. We have already successfully brought a product to market, which included large-scale manufacturing processes, trial phases, global sourcing of parts and customer service. Barring any unforeseen circumstances or acts of god and with enough support from the Kickstarter community, we will be able to fulfill our project plan as outlined above.
