In a world filled with untold horrors and dark secrets, there are few people with the courage to stand up to the darkness... very few... so few in fact that we can't exactly be picky. In the spirit of Scooby Doo, and Ghost Busters, Cavatina puts you in the role of leading an inept team of paranormal investigators to find and eliminate supernatural threats to mankind in this not so serious horror mystery.

Set in a modern world, filled with dark creatures such as Tween Vampires, Greedy Gnomes, and Vicious Werebadgers, this game takes all the elements of a good RPG and mashes them with the fun and skill of your favorite old rhythm games.

Gameplay can be generally divided into two sections.  The RPG mode where you wander the world looking for clues, talking to NPCs, and stealing... I mean searching for useful items.  Then there's the fighting that happens when you discover one of the monsters you are looking for.  In fact, it's the combat system that really makes this game stand apart.  Unlike traditional RPGs, where combat is either turn-based action selection or mindless button mashing, Cavatina uses a Rhythm interface akin to Audacity or Guitar Hero forcing the player to use skill to chain together attack combos, block enemy attacks, and activate special powers.  

Alvin the Ballerino: While many would assume a professional dancer would be a push-over, Alvin has spent years honing his body for both strength and precision.  His physical prowess allows him to traverse obstacles that would thwart a lesser man.  Despite an impressive physique, he often struggles in social encounters being that... well... he does wear an awful lot of pink.

Attack: He can inflict the highest base damage out of the group, but gets very few special effects.

Defense: He is able to survive more damage than anyone else, and can negate the most damage with defensive combos.

Support: Depending on his equipment, he specializes in defensive support actions such as taunt, guard, evade, etc.

Grace the Gutter Punk: More attitude than common sense, Grace often lacks the toughness to back up her words.  That said she is well versed in many not-so-legal skills including lock-picking, hot-wiring, and general infiltration.  Given her criminal record, it tends to be wise for her to avoid too much contact with the more law-abiding elements of society.

Attack: She has a low base damage, but gets extra critical damage for successful attack combos.  With a perfect combo, she can do the most damage out of your group.

Defense: Her defense combos are used to dodge attacks rather than minimize damage.

Support: Depending on her equipment, she specializes in de-buff support actions such as poison, blinding, stunning, etc.

Mia the Mystic Hipster: When you think of practitioners of the occult, Mia is in many ways the last woman you would expect.  Hopelessly addicted to over-priced cappuccinos, social media, and cheap mobile apps, Mia is known to surprise both friend and foe alike when her trusty tablet actually turns out to be a powerful book of spells.  While she tends to be... not quite as brave as her partners, her unique powers and social charms make her one of the most versatile members of the team.

Attack: Depending on her equipment, she gets special effects added to her attacks freeze, burn, hit all enemies, etc.

Defense: She has a low over-all defense.

Support: Depending on her equipment, she specializes in miscellaneous actions such as slow-time, enchant weapons, etc.

Rodney the Disgraced Priest: While Rodney is a man clearly disapproved of by the Church for his MANY vices, it still seems that God favors the man.  Able to call down divine intervention with a single prayer, he is a great asset to the team.  That said, it is best to keep him away from drugs and alcohol since he's a man that would WAY rather ask for forgiveness than for permission.

Attack: He has the weakest attack skill.

Defense: He has a good over-all defense.

Support: Depending on his equipment, he specializes in restorative actions such as heal, cure, resurrection, etc.

Jason Killeen (Programmer): He has been doing game design since he was 12.  He's worked on about a dozen indie game projects including "Tribes", "Domin", and "Monster Monster Asteroid Madness".  He is well versed in blending unique gaming experiences with intuitive UIs. His most recent game "Star Dust" was Released in November of 2012 and holds 3.5 stars on Kongregate.com; an impressive feat for a 1-man project completed in under 5 months. After concluding his work on "Star Dust" he took on a full-time position with Microsoft, but is now looking to get back into the world of game design.

Terra Snover (Artist / Writer): She has been doing professional illustration and script writing for ten years, specializing in comics and webcomics. Her resume includes projects like Screamland, Mock Girl, and a large number of one shot comics. She also has extensive experience working in the game design field for companies like IDC Projects, Overzealous Studios, and Microsoft, doing 2D and 3D work on everything from small iOS games to massive projects like the Bing Maps app.  

Tyler Cooper (Animator): He is highly experienced at 2D and 3D modeling, animation, illustration, and even physical fabrication, a talent he has showcased at places like San Diego Comic Con.  He recently finished a term at Microsoft, and he is eager to offer his unique perspective to the project.

Tom Moloney (Management): An experienced pyrotechnician, is also the college Emmy award-wining producer of the web series The Mortal Coils, and has spent time managing the operation and construction of a nationally recognized haunted house at Elitch Gardens Theme Park. He is excited for the challenge of bringing this production management background to the gaming industry, where the only explosions are on a screen, and making this vision become reality.  

Wiley Dog (Human Morale Advisor): With 5 years of experience supervising human moral and canine activities including standing, playing dead, and rolling over, he is an indispensable part of the team.

Risks and challenges

Our biggest challenge on this project is to integrate two unique game genres (RPG and Rythmn) into a single enjoyable system. That said, we are already exploring methods to insure that this union happens as cleanly and naturally as possible, and we feel confident that the end result will meet or exceed expectations.
