just bought it and ya, like a few here, i would appreciate if we have info on shantae half genie hero instead of another game.

    2. Creator Jefferson Kiefer on July 25, 2014

Mm, purchased. It looks like the transition to PC wasn't uncomfortable. Now I can hairwhip from the comfort of my own home!

    3. Creator Pedro Rosas on July 23, 2014

When are we gonna hear any updates for 1/2 Genie? I understand that you guys are busy (since now Pirate's Curse is Wii U also) but a little bit of information would be nice.

    4. Creator Vincent Timbro on July 22, 2014

I'll just leave this blank check on the corner of the table over there, you write in any number you want.

    5. Creator Sin Volvagia on July 21, 2014

It really makes me facepalm when people think they deserve Risky's Revenge for free just because they donated. Talk about being greedy.

    6. Creator Yazuka on July 20, 2014

I hope you'll consider releasing the game on PlayStation platforms too. Really looking forward too ½ Genie Hero.

    7. Creator Jeremie Lariviere on July 19, 2014

      and android

    8. Creator Jeremie Lariviere on July 19, 2014

Pretty cool that you're doing that; like others, I'm not likely to buy on Steam, but do buy a lot of games on GOG

    9. Creator Ersarger on July 18, 2014

Any plans to bringing this to Playstation platforms? Also the first Shantae game please? Many gamers would be pleased, I guess.

    10. Creator Pyragor on July 17, 2014

Steam doesn't prevent illegal distribution. If I want a game for free, I will get it in 2 minutes on the web, Steam or not, DRM or not. And between "Steam said" and "Steam will do", there are a lot of things. If Steam goes bankrupt, allowing customers to get their games will be their last care (and I would understand them).
This problem appart, I am against DRM and "DRM Steam are soft",or not, "Steam is good" or not, I won't let my trust in any retailer.

    11. Creator Thomas "SkyeWelse" Liebert on July 17, 2014

For those who are concerned with Steam and DRM issues, I used to be on the fence about Steam and DRM ahwhile back as well having subcribed to an online service for MSX games called "Woomb" that went out of business and I lost access to all of the titles I had purchased when they shut their doors. Before I started using Steam I had a friend explain to me that it had already been confirmed that in the event that Steam were to go out of business or shut down that measures would be in place to make all of the personal individual licenses that had been purchased by their users, DRM free. There's a reddit article that talks more about this here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/18mzcn/i_asked_steam_support_what_happens_to_my_games_if/

It may shed some light and present even more questions, who knows, but I personally feel that my purchases on Steam are secure and would be made available DRM free should such an event happen to where Steam had to close up shop. Also, the ability to easy see an archive of what you own without necessarily having to install and keep track of every game you own is nice, as well as the community over all. GOG is nice as well, but I guess there isn't anything really to protect game releases from being distributed illegally. Steam DRM at least helps prevent illegal distribution and cheating most of the time.

    12. Creator Pyragor on July 17, 2014

I would also buy a DRM free version (gog or humblestore are both fine to me). But Steam is not a possibility.

    13. Creator Thomas "SkyeWelse" Liebert on July 16, 2014

@Chris, Wayne - Thank you for taking the time to comment on this. Hopefully if WayForward is reading this, they might keep this in mind to have updates be mainly about Half Genie Hero, while any other mentions of other Shantae games are kept in a "Oh, by the way" section at the end of the update. Like you all, I'm anxious to see another update for Half Genie Hero as well, so I do look forward to updates being about this particular project. But, at the same time I'm a big Shantae fan in general, even made a fansite about the series because I want it to do well, so at least in my case, any Shantae news for me is good news to read about in the general sense. I know that however long it takes, even without updates, the Half Genie Hero team will no doubt release an excellent product that is on caliber with their previous Shantae games, if not exceed it completely.

@Mario Gomez - I'm not sure what you mean by this and I'm not trying to be a troll here or anything, but your statements just do not make sense to me and I want to understand more of where you are coming from. First, WayForward is "making" you pay for something that you should have gotten for free? Is it not your complete choice whether or not to buy a product that is different from this Half Genie Hero Kickstarter? And second, who are these other people that got it for free? Was this some kind of promotion where some backers were given out free copies of the games? I backed Half Genie Hero at the $200 Premium Tier + $15 more for an additional copy of Half Genie Hero once it is released and I never once thought that WayForward owed me a copy of Risky's Revenge on Steam. It is a separate game entirely and I spent the $9.99 to purchase it, because I wanted to purchase it, just as I would any other game released on Steam. In fact, it's actually cheaper than the original DSi version on the Nintendo eShop by a few bucks, so it seems to me like a deal. Not to mention it will likely end up being a great canditate for Steam sales in the future to get the game even cheaper. So I just don't understand this point being made here and you do not seem to be the only one making this "I should have gotten it for free" claim and that's what I want to understand. Why do you think you should be getting this for free when you backed a different game?

    14. Creator Michael Melnikoff on July 16, 2014

Wow, the comments for this are kind of pathetic. All they did was announce something we'd likely be interested in, having backed a Shantae game, and we get all sorts of whining about DRM and demands for a discount or free copy. Show some dignity people.

    15. Creator Wayne Griffin on July 16, 2014

@Thomas Liebert: I was excited to see an update for Half Genie Hero and was disappointed to see an ad for a different game. (Especially one I can't play; my PC is too antiquated.) I feel the same way as Chris Capel; I wouldn't mind if this was added onto an actual update for the game I backed as an "oh, by the way..." I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd like to see an actual update in the update. Also, I was unfamiliar with Shantae before this Kickstarter campaign since I was never into handheld gaming; my Wii U needed games, and this looked like a good one.

    16. Creator mario gomez on July 16, 2014

+1 for a GOG.com release. If you are going to make me pay for something I should have gotten for FREE like the other people then at least offer it to me DRM FREE.

    17. Creator Chris Castronovo on July 16, 2014

@Chris J Capel I honestly don't have much issue about the lack of updates, this project was a labor of love for WayForward, and the fact that they were able to get as much money as they did makes me very happy. I suppose I would like to see some new artwork, and assets from the game as updates, but I think it's more important that they continue working on the game, and make it as good as they possibly can.

    18. Creator Chris J Capel on July 16, 2014

@Thomas Liebert: I don't take issue with WayForward telling us about other Shantae games, other Kickstarters, or other games they're making at all. As long as they think us backers will be interested I'm happy for them to inform us. I love the fact that Risky's Revenge is now out on Steam - if I hadn't played most of it on iPad I'd be getting it!

My issue is simply that this stuff should be the side stuff in Kickstarter updates for Half-Genie Hero, the "oh, and also..." section. We haven't had any further news on the game since May 10th despite several updates, and the last two updates were entirely advertising Risky's Revenge on PC (and contained basically the same info).

    19. Creator Thomas "SkyeWelse" Liebert on July 16, 2014

Whoops. I forgot to post the entire comment from my notepad. Let's try this again. Sorry!

I'm actually a bit surprised of two things from some of the comments I'm reading. One, in that there seems to be a disconnect between getting a copy of Shantae Half Genie Hero (which is what we all pledged for) and the re-release of Shantae Risky's Revenge. It just seems like some are saying that because we funded Half-Genie Hero, we should be entitled to any of the other Shantae releases coming out before Half-Genie Hero is released, which just isn't the case. I hope that the folks asking these questions or those who have concerns with this will come to understand that what they pledged for is an all new HD Shantae adventure for the platform of their choice.

The second, that there seems to be an issue with WayForward posting news about other Shantae games in the series, because it is not an update about Half Genie Hero directly. Perhaps on some level I just assumed that most backers of Half Genie Hero were interested in the Shantae series as a whole and would not mind updates or "ads" about other Shantae games getting released.

In some ways I can understand where these backers are coming from if they didn't care about the other games in the series, but WayForward is a pretty small company and they develop these games in their spare time and with a limited budget (hence this Kickstarter) and this Kickstarter is one of the largest platforms they have to communicate news of their other Shantae releases. Also, I would imagine that any sales from the Steam version of Shantae Risky's Revenge Director's Cut would likely help go to fund the Shantae series on the whole, including Half Genie Hero, so there may be some indirect correlation here with how one can affect the other. It's also the first Shantae game released on Steam which should give WayForward practice and experience with how to best release Half Genie Hero on Steam when it is finally ready.

I guess my question to those backers who take issue with this annoucement of Shantae Risky's Revenge Director's Cut only would be: If WayForward kept this in mind for any future updates, say for example some news about the all new Shantae game for 3DS, Pirate's Curse, would you object to an update being made that talks about this information if there was even a small update for Half Genie Hero included along with it? I'm just wondering if that is the real issue here, in that at least there needs to be some type of update for Half Genie Hero, whether it be large or small.

I've got one update for Half Genie Hero that I'm not sure was mentioned here. I believe on Twitter last week it was confirmed that Christina Vee would be doing the voicework for Shantae in Half Genie Hero. So that's some news at least, right!? : )

It would've made a whole lot difference in sales if you gave out 20% discount coupons to Kickstarter backers.

      @DeafTard
If you read this, you DO realize it's on the eShop for the 3DS, yes?

    24. Creator Michael Stippich on July 16, 2014

thought for backing would of gotten this for free for steam...ill wait to play on the ps4 i suppose

    28. Creator Chris Castronovo on July 15, 2014

I have been waiting for this steam release for so long. I bought it right away ^_^

I love all the Shantae coming this year...Plan on getting Pirate's Curse right away on Wii U, and I am proud to be a backer for Half-Genie Hero.

      Possible Humble Bundle/GOG release?

    30. Creator Carlos Eduardo on July 15, 2014

I want news on Half-Genie Hero. I backed Half-Genie Hero, nothing more, nothing less.

    31. Creator Grant (WZX) on July 15, 2014

"Kickstarts a Shantae game, doesn't want to be notified when another one is coming out" #SMH they are working their butts off, this was a small project not their main focus. The 3DS and HGH is their main focus but it's not like Shantae is a big money maker so they have to be clever about using their resources and staying afloat financially.

    32. Creator Sabin Stargem on July 15, 2014

Would this be coming to GOG? I would like to buy the game without supporting Steam if possible.

    33. Creator Tekaramity on July 15, 2014

Just FYI, cards don't appearing to be dropping yet. That means no badges/emotes/wallpapers/etc. Disregard this if the issue's already resolved. Thanks. ^^

    34. Creator BH on July 15, 2014

Oh c'mon, are some of you actually doubting that they're working on HGH? Aren't we all Shantae fans here? Let's just get hype for Shantae on PC! If it wasn't for the prior update, I might not have known about this.

And while the updates have been slower for HGH, we can't forget how busy these guys are. They've already given us a ton of material to digest so far, and have definitely been more frequent with updates than a lot of other projects I've backed. I'm sure they'll flood us with more HGH material once they feel it's ready.

    35. Creator Mark Bozon on July 15, 2014

WOOT! I gave it my money! Giving things money is the best!

    36. Creator Sin Volvagia on July 15, 2014

About time! I will be getting by the end of the week. I'm already liking Steam's summer thanks to Shovel Knight and this will help.

    37. Creator Shenandoah Flepp on July 15, 2014

Awesome, awesome, AWESOME! I was gonna play through Tough mode in Dust: An Elysian Tail, but that's gonna have to be put on hold for another day! Gotta have my Shantae :)

    38. Creator FlareKnight on July 15, 2014

I'll certainly look into picking it up on steam at some point.

But I also agree with the message that it'd be nice to get more updates on the actual kickstarted game and not just ads for other games coming out.

    39. Creator Josep M. Pons on July 15, 2014

The problem I'm facing now... Is that I out money for a game.

i've not problems with you anouncing other games and all... But the project we bacjed for was another one.

So, please, don't be confused. It is not a platform to do ads of your games. You can do it, no problem, but please, please... At least give us news about the status of the project we backed for!

An example of how you need to do it. Mighty number 9. i feel they are giving info, to me!

    40. Creator Robert Salender on July 15, 2014

/releases game when I have no money. By Thursday will I get it.

    41. Creator OtoshiGami No. 40723 on July 15, 2014

maybe this game can be used as a way to reach certain stretch goals for Half-geinie hero that's never been unlock. hope that method works. :)

    42. Creator Drifty Boots on July 15, 2014

For updates on the half genie hero kickstarter page, could we please have more about the game we backed, and less about other projects? It's great that you're excited for your game and all, but I'm beginning to feel cheated and thinking you aren't putting effort into this project.

    43. Creator Bradley Cephas on July 15, 2014

I would like a Vita version too.

    44. Creator Eijhu on July 15, 2014

    46. Creator Chris J Capel on July 15, 2014

Great! Now, how's Half-Genie Hero coming along? :)

@Michael Camacho: This isn't the Kickstarted Shantae game, this is the second game in the series remastered for PC.

    47. Creator Thomas "SkyeWelse" Liebert on July 15, 2014

Just purchased and downloading it now. Can't wait to play it. : )

    48. Creator Rex Warner on July 15, 2014

Bought and installed. It would be a sin to have voted for this in Greenlight, then to have abandoned it.

    49. Creator Lorenz Jugel on July 15, 2014

Congrats on release! ...of the other game, that is. :)

Added to my watchlist. I already own the game on a million other platforms and have probably played through it just as often, but it'll make a great gift or wishlist item.
