Greetings and Salutations to all of our Shantaerians and Tinkerbackers!

Wow this year feels like it has flown by.  Now that winter is finally upon us we hope you're all staying warm, while visions of half-genies dance through your heads ;)

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

Winter may have just begun, but Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is nearing the finish line!  The team is working super crazy hard and the game just keeps getting more amazing with each passing day.  By the time the last snowfall of Winter melts you should all be happily enjoying a brand new adventure in Sequin Land!

And here's a special treat!  Click the image above to download it and take a look at this teaser Matt personally assembled for everyone.  There are some familiar faces, lots of new ones, and even some hints at the story!

Shantae: Risky's Revenge (iOS)

If you haven't already heard, Shantae: Risky's Revenge on iOS now supports Game Controllers made for iPhone and iPod touch. Game Controller support requires iOS 7 or later and is compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, and iPod touch (5th generation).

It's one of only TWO games with official controller support in the iTunes App Store, so check it out!

Shantae: Risky's Revenge (Steam)

We are hard at work on the Steam release of Shantae: Risky's Revenge and it looks like it will be available Q2 of next year!  We're tentatively calling this the "Director's Cut" because we are taking the best parts of the DSiWare original and all our favorite updates from the iOS release to make it the best version of Risky's Revenge yet!

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero

Hmmmm...is there a Shantae game we forgot to mention?  What could we be forgetting? Oh yeah!  As if we weren't busy enough, pre-production of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is moving along nicely and we look forward to sharing some new concepts and information in the coming weeks!

      Great news indeed!

    2. Creator Michael Bernier on December 19, 2013

Nice to see this on Steam, now let's get Mighty Switch Force Hyperdrive edition on there too.

    3. Creator Sabin Stargem on December 17, 2013

I am hoping that Risky's Revenge and Half-Genie Hero would be available through GOG, as that is my distributor of choice when it comes to games.

    4. Creator Omar Lima on December 16, 2013

Will the other Shantae come out to the PC?

    5. Creator Ryan Bell on December 16, 2013

      Damn you windows phone.

    6. Creator Vince Vazquez on December 16, 2013

Awesome. Hopefully the Steam Machines will be launching around the same timeframe, so Valve's PC/Console monsters can launch with a AAA sidescroller in Shantae - like any good game system should :) The sooner Shantae gets on people's TV's the better!

Great to hear so many good news! I so can't wait for Pirate's Curse... *http://derpy.me/p4e6c*

      Hurraa!
I'm happy to read that there's so much progress already.
Can't wait till the new forums are ready where we get to directly put our suggestions relating to Half-Genie Hero.

    9. Creator Phil de Bruin on December 15, 2013

Please port the Mighty Switch Force games to other platforms too, namely PC/Steam and PS4. They'd get far more exposure on platforms which actually have a sizeable install-base. Wii U is a sinking ship and not everyone owns a 3DS.

    10. Creator Marco Zelaya on December 14, 2013

@Kimiko Koopman it was never said that it would come out fall ,winter was always the range we were given since the moment any time was given. This update said Winter which at most would still be in Q1 of 2014 so i don't know where you got Q2 from.

    11. Creator Michael Zimmer on December 14, 2013

I love the Pixel Art of Risky Revenge, so i'm glad this also comes for pc.

    12. Creator Tekaramity on December 14, 2013

Excellent to receive modest updates concerning *each* upcoming release! =) Gonna proliferate this information like a Tek~

    13. Creator Celtic Minstrel on December 14, 2013

Kinda a pity I can't take advantage of iOS controller support since I'm still on iPhone 4. Ah well.

Kimiko Koopman: I'm pretty sure you've misunderstood. Pirate's Curse is going to be released this month, as far as I know (not 100% sure); the release happening Q2 2014 is Risky's Revenge for PC.

    14. Creator Kimiko Koopman on December 14, 2013

Now that you mention it, wasn't Pirate's Curse originally planned to release this year? Autumn or so IIRC. Delaying it until Q2 2014 seems rather a long time. What went worng? Are you sure ½Genie Hero won't be delayed too?

    15. Creator Chris on December 14, 2013

Yay, nice to hear that the game is on it's way to Steam. Even though I'm not a PC-gamer I might buy it. One suggestion: Send it this announcement tom some bigger news sites and additionally mention the PayPal-possibility for Half-Genie Hero. "Only" 60k USD till next goal. Come on, let's do this!

    16. Creator Raiiban on December 14, 2013

No android version of Risky's Revenge or update to the DSiware version makes Jay a sad sad boy. Only thing that will fix this is the new game when it finally comes out.

    17. Creator Some furf on December 14, 2013

I'm very much looking forward to the PC version of Risky's Revenge. I hope it does well enough for you to consider porting Double Dragon Neon to the PC, that was easily my favourite game of last year and I'll buy it again in a flash.

    18. Creator Jack Lok on December 14, 2013

That's awesome. Unfortunately I don't have a 3DS, but I plan on getting a 2DS soon. If you manage you port Risky's Revenge onto Steam, I'm so buying it.

    19. Creator Paul Shotton on December 14, 2013

      Great news. :)

It should be noted that there are a few more than two games on the App Store with official controller support though. Bastion, Limbo, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Call of Duty: Strike Force, Asphalt 8 etc all spring to mind.

    20. Creator DreamDrop♥ on December 13, 2013

Thank god for iOS controller support. Now to get a controller

    21. Creator Matt Murphy on December 13, 2013

Any plans to release an Android version of Risky's Revenge?

    22. Creator Jeremie Lariviere on December 13, 2013

great to hear the progress! looking forward to the game!

    23. Creator Franco Louis on December 13, 2013

I hope that picture means the Dancer Shantae costume will be available in Pirate's Curse. Maybe in the Steam version of Risky's Revenge, too? :)

    24. Creator Jose Torres on December 13, 2013

@WayForward will you guys have pick out a playable demo soon?

    25. Creator Stuckov the Admirable on December 13, 2013

Take your time with the PC release, a lot of bad ports have been hitting Steam recently so it is properly optimized, it will be receiving great reviews right off the bat from the community.

    26. Creator Antonio Ortiz on December 13, 2013

Wow..nice update, so Risky in steam is for real? Instabuy

    27. Creator Sam Wilcox on December 13, 2013

      Nice. Remember, Shantae is love.

    28. Creator Jamie 'Mitch McKidd' Mitchell on December 13, 2013

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Pirate's Curse would play like since we're close to playing that game. 2013 was a brilliant year for WayForward because of Shantae's re-release on the 3DS Virtual Console, Mighty Switch Force 2, Ducktales: Remastered and finally, the Half Genie Hero KickStarter were the highlights for WayForward in this year. Hopefully, 2014 will be a greater year for you guys at WayForward and fingers crossed that these games will be making gamers happy and cheerful. =)

    29. Creator Protoman Red Bomber on December 13, 2013

WOW...Great update :D! A lot of Shantae coming.

    30. Creator gb7zone7 on December 13, 2013

@Nick It might be because Risky's Revenge is a DSi game, but it's a guess.

    31. Creator Nick Colucci on December 13, 2013

Glad I read this - I just recently got a 3DS and Risky's Revenge is the first title I looked up on the eShop, but it seemed kind of weird that it wanted to save to my system memory instead of the larger SD card I bought specifically to hold digital purchases. I've waited this long, so I figure I can wait a little longer for the Steam version. Glad to know the Pirate's Curse is just a scant few months away too!

    32. Creator Hetdegon on December 13, 2013

Steam version of Risky's Revenge? Count one sale as soon as it comes out!

    33. Creator Sin Volvagia on December 13, 2013

Thanks for making this Friday the 13th better than it already is. I can't wait for more Shantae!

    34. Creator Orm on December 13, 2013

Finished my last exam of the semester, and got a Shantae update?
      Best Friday of the year!

    35. Creator Fenril Huayra on December 13, 2013

More great news, awesome as the pic with some cool and interesting characters :D
I have the DS version of Risky Revenge and of course I'll get the Steam Version too *-*
      Keep up the great work!

    36. Creator gb7zone7 on December 13, 2013

Good to see the updates today. Just finished finals and this got me excited for Pirate's Curse.

    37. Creator Theodore Trevor on December 13, 2013

I'm glad to hear the Steam version is coming along. I'd been wondering whether it would take more after the DSi or iOS version, and it sounds like you're taking the best possible route!

By the way, if you're adding controller support to the iOS version, maybe you should also add a difficulty setting to make it more like the DSi version. As I understand it, the iOS version was made easier because of the lower fidelity of touch controls, but this would seem to fix that issue. And as I've said before, an Android release would be a good idea (though I'll be perfectly happy with the Steam version).
