Costume Pack Code Distribution!

Hello Backers! Awesome news today - Our final (yes you heard that right!) DLC content “Costume Pack” will launch to the public on April 10th! That is only 1 week away! Yee-gads!

You know the drill - it’s time to get all of you Backers your download codes first, so you can enjoy the game early!

We’ll be sending out codes starting today, and continuing all the way up to launch as they arrive. As always we’ll do everything we can to serve you first!

Costume Pack Trailer!

The trailer for Costume Pack is also ready to go! Click here to see Costume Pack in motion! And as always, this is your baby - so please retweet, stream, and post video to help promote wherever you can. Just be careful not to spoil too many surprises!

Steam, Xbox, Wii U (EU & AU/NZ), PS4 (EU) and Vita (EU) get ready!

Your codes are being sent out presently! Watch your inboxes! For other platforms (Vita NA and PS4 NA, we expect those to be sent out between now and Monday, April 9th).

Note re: Wii U North America Codes

These codes are being sent your way now. However, the Wii U Codes (NA) for Costume Pack will be “time stamped”, meaning that content will not activate until April 10th. You CAN enter your code immediately, it just won't activate. This is for NORTH AMERICA WII U ONLY.

Again, your code is good, even if you enter it and the download doesn’t appear to activate. Keep the code and enter it again on April 10th! Sorry for the inconvenience.

Reminder about finding your codes!

Watch your inboxes (and spam filters) for your download code! As always, you can refer to Kickstarter Update #94 for a quick reminder on how to claim rewards. Again, thanks for your patience as we serve everyone.

THIS IS IT! Get ready to enjoy the FINAL Shantae: Half-Genie Hero DLC!!

@WayForward Done and done. Much thanks.

@Blackmore - All codes have gone out. If you can not find yours in your e-mail or on your backer kit, you'll want to contact support@wayforward.com

    3. Blackmore on

Have the Steam codes started going out yet? Haven't seen anything.

Never mind my last comment. It works now.

It's now the 10th and the Wii U eShop code for the new DLC still doesn't work. Is it just my code or is it going to activate later tonight?

Public* stupid autocorrect and lack of ability to edit messages on Kickstarter.

I'll get to that in a few hours. It's a shame that this feedback won't have any chance to lead to improvements before the picnic release now.

    8. WayForward Creator on

All the PS4 NA and PSVita NA Codes have gone out today. Sorry for the delay but we hope you enjoy the new DLC.

@Miraglyth - It would be best if you to could to accumulate all your feedback into one e-mail and send it along to our support@wayforward.com staff. They can be sure to send it to the correct team members to look at.

We enjoy feedback and suggestions; both the things the fans love and hate. However, its easier for use to get it to the write people if its sent through support :)

Another incremental feedback; further experimentation suggests quite a wide difference between the "fastest" requirements for any% and 100%. For Ninja Mode the former seems to need 45:00 and the latter 1:00:00.

It's possible they expect people to go through each mode twice, once for each speedrun, as some of the collectables involve a bit of backtracking and consume a lot of time (2-1 for Officer Mode requiring looping around the level, for instance).

If so that's possibly not INCREDIBLY hard, but it's still a marked difference from the base game and every previous DLC. And perhaps a little tiring, adding 7-9 extra playthroughs of what's essentially still the same game as base, hardcore, Risky and Friends modes.

So following on from my earlier whining and forward learning from the Steam forum, yes there are speed run win screens. Not only that, but the one for Ninja at least is HORRIBLY strict.

I spent almost 4 hours abusing the fact that time only progresses when you save, and redoing every single area in the game a dozen times over until I had one really good run through it. Even then, I came in less than 4 minutes below the speed run requirement time.

It's madness, and a shocking divergence from every other speed run requirement in the game. Like the three-hearts-no-healing element I am encouraging (and badly hoping) that WayForward does something about this in advance of the official release of this DLC.

Oh duh I just read the whole thing. Sorry, I haven't had my coffee yet

    12. Orion Ake (Handlebar Orion-X) on

I tried inputting the download code a few days late because I was busy with stuff, but the eShop says the code won't work until the item is actually released. I never had this issue before, what gives?

    13. Adam Krump on

Like some of those before, I got codes, but they aren't for the PS4. Do I have to wait until the general public gets it again?

    14. Darmin Hadzic on

      Thanks for the new content!
I enjoyed the Ninja mode (dialogue was kind of lackluster but the gameplay was solid), and REALLY enjoyed the Switch mode. (both the dialogue and the gameplay was excellent)

Do you guys foresee ever continuing the Switch Force series past Academy?

      Miraglyth on

Oh my lord. There are SPEED RUN win screens again?! I have to play through beach mode a second time?

WayForward, you are making me hate this game. I'm not exaggerating. This is NOT fun. You've screwed up.

Hypno Baron drops one sunscreen a couple of hits before dying... honestly that's not good enough.

The baron boss fight is an option on the level select screen, so at the very least you can return to previous levels to fully power up and make it a little less insane.

So I received three new keys: Costume Pack Steam, Comp Costume Pack Steam Code #1 (PS4 NA) and Comp Costume Pack Steam Code #2 (PS4 NA). These are all for the same thing, for Steam, right? And the actual PS4 key is coming before April 9th?

    18. Missing avatar

      Miraglyth on

Wait, is swimsuit mode an april fools or something? Hypno Baron is NOT dropping sunscreen for me. If you try to kill him first you'll die because you aren't attacking Squid Baron and won't get sunscreen, and if you kill Squid Baron first you won't get any more sunscreen and you'll die anyway!

Initial beta feedback from the swimsuit playthrough (almost complete at time of writing).

WHY after the heavily negative feedback in Friends to the End are you insisting on more 3-hearts-no-healing modes, WayForward? They are NOT fun!! The sunscreen mechanic doesn't even really matter, other than to force you to take hits you normally wouldn't, which is a real killer when some basic enemy attacks can do 8 damage!

It is astonishing that the "Super Hardcore" mode is actually one of the easiest modes in the game!

I had fun with the beach mode for the first two levels. Giga Mermaid onwards, it has been an utter chore and feels like VERY little playtesting has gone into this new mode. Just enough to make Wilbur drop sunscreen pretty much every time you hit his eye.

Having spent an hour between the third desert level (arrow spam from offscreen and 4-damage bombs you sometimes can't stop, ugh) and the hypno castle alone, I can share one very helpful oversight: If you game over after picking up dream squids, you'll need to get them again. BUT if you pick them up and then switch level, it saves them.

The dual barons are making me pull my hair out. 3 hearts, some of their attacks do 4 damage, and they seem to drop NO HEALTH and the only times they seem to drop sunscreen are when you'll need to tank a hit to pick it up. Which you can't do because YOU HAVE TOO LITTLE HEALTH.

Rant over. This is godawful. I hope the other modes give you a reasonable amount of health.

The non-backers are in for a real treat as soon as this goes live.

    21. Some furf on

Check your downloads page (Library > Downloads). It's probably got the update queued and waiting some arbitrary amount of time to actually start it. Mine was going to take four hours. You can press a button to get it started instantly.

    22. Clint Parker on

I got the code and activated it. Then what? It won't let me install the comp steam code on my Steam copy of the game.
      What have I done wrong???

    23. AlexFlame116 on

Thank you so much for this! I can't wait til we get our PS4 codes here in NA!

I checked my backer rewards and it looks like I got two Steam codes for the Costume Pack DLC. I renewed one of them and it stated that it was for Beta Testers. Will I still keep the Costume Pack after testing is over?

    24. WayForward Creator on

@Joseph - If you are a US region backer, please check the section marked "Note re: Wii U North America Codes"

@Raiiban - All Ultimate Editions will get the Blue Swimsuit, but only Ultimate Editions get the swimsuit.

@Keichi - A few updates back we announced that every backer will be getting a free Steam copy of Ultimate Edition as a gift from us. It includes the blue swimsuit. However the swimsuit is exclusive to the Ultimate Edition and will not be separate DLC.

    25. Johnathon Thomas Salfer on

I got two Compromise Steam keys, but sounds like PS4 keys won't be here until (at the latest) the 9th? Sounds good!

      Joseph Robert Cintron on

I used the code on my Wii U and said it's not being distributed. Am I the only one who's having this problem?

    27. Raiiban on

Can you clarify something for me? XSeed tweeted out that their switch version will have an exclusive blue swimsuit. Is that really only going to the switch version and I won't be able to get it on PC, even if I had to pay additional for it? or is it exclusive to the Ultimate bundles for all platforms and I just can't get it on the key I got form kickstarter? I don't remember hearing about this at all in any previous updates so sorry if you already answered this stuff elsewhere.

    29. Keichi Morisato on

hey Wayforward, are we getting the blue swimsuit as well?

    30. Blackmore on

WayForward is one of the very few kickstarters I backed where I haven't felt disappointed once & you guys have gone above & beyond making the backers more than happy. Looking forward to the Ultimate Edition.
