2017 Kickoff!

We’re already a month into 2017, and what an exciting new year Shantae is having already! First, a huge thanks to everyone who helped make the launch of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero a huge success! Whether you pledged a lot or a little, helped promote, created content for the game, streamed, or demonstrated patience during the launch period, we want to extend a very heartfelt thank you!

Scores!

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has been very well received by Shantae Fans and the community as a whole! Go ahead and tell your family and friends that you backed a winner! Here’s what people are saying about your game!

  • 9/10 from Nintendo Life, Nintendo Force, Nintendo World Report, the SixthAxis, Digitally Downloaded
  • 8/10 from Kotaku, IGN, Worth Playing, PlayStation Lifestyle, Gamespot
  • Steam users have named it “Overwhelmingly Positive”, which requires a 95% positive review!

Reviews are still rolling in, but why not take a moment to pat each other on the back! Great job, everyone!!

So… What’s Next?

During the month of January, we’ve been doing some housecleaning. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

MISSING BACKER CODES: Over the holiday we expanded our support team to help get everyone taken care of! There are still a few people left to help, so we’re making this our top priority.

UPDATE 1.01: Since launch we’ve been fixing bugs! We’ve been snooping around social media, and digging through support emails to improve the game’s stability in numerous ways. Now we’re getting ready to submit Version 1.01, which will make all versions of the game up to date. This update will also contain a special “thank you” surprise, which we’ll reveal in our next Kickstarter Update - We hope you look forward to it!

PHYSICAL REWARDS: Work on the physical rewards has begun in earnest! T-shirts, the Collector’s Coin, Music CDs, the Lenticular Poster, and the Art Book are either being designed, are are in production. We’re prioritizing quality over timeliness, same as with the game. So thank you for being patient. You’ve waited a long time, and we want these things to be awesome!

DLC Content is in the Works!

The game may be over, but the DLC will continue! Here’s a quick status update on all of the DLC!

TINKERBAT DLC: The playable Tinkerbat form is now complete and in test! We expect this to be our first DLC release. We’ll have an ETA on that as soon as we’ve submitted Update 1.01.

DLC MODES: We’ve already started work on the Risky Boots, Sky, Bolo, Rottytops, Beach, Ninja, and Officer Modes! We plan to release Risky Boots Mode first, and that’s where we’re putting the majority of our dev efforts now!

BLUE SHANTAE, CLASSIC RISKY, and SWORD: This download code is planned to include all 3 of these features, and will arrive after the Risky Boots DLC drops. We need Risky’s mode to be completed before we can recolor her, and we want to lump all of this Backer content into a single submission to make the code distribution easier for everyone.

Credits Survey

Some Backers were not able to be credited in the game for a variety reasons - usually due to unsupported characters, character length, etc. We’re going to work with you to fix that ASAP! In the coming weeks we’ll be sending out a survey to everyone affected, so we can update the game with the right info. We’ll cover the specifics in our next Kickstarter Update, so look forward to that!

Goodbye to Early Access!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Early Access reward tier! Now that the game has shipped, the Early Access version (in it’s current form) will be discontinued. Since the Early Access version won’t be receiving bug-fixes or DLC, we’re shutting it down so that no one is confused, or playing the wrong version down the line. The game will revert to it’s previous “demo” state on March 1st. Thanks!

Playstation TV

As you may already know, support for the Playstation TV did not make it into the final product. If you’ve dreamed of playing PS Vita on the big screen, fret no longer! Today we’re happy to announce that PSTV support is back, and will be included in Update 1.01! Huge thanks to our friends at Xseed and Sony for helping us add this feature!

Goodbye for now!

Thank you, and here’s to a happy and productive 2017!

Hello. Apparently, the game was released in December of 2016. Well, I haven't gotten the game, or anything else that I was physically supposed to receive with a Standard Edition reward level. I would really, REALLY like to get the game, please. Everything else is gravy, though I would like to receive the rest as well.

      Thank you.

As far I know I haven't gotten my code and no luck finding anything in my spam folder

Still haven't gotten my code and I have sent three emails out with no response.

I didn't get to put my name in the credits, though I suppose it might have been because the email got list amidst all the other rubbish in my inbox. I hope I can still get a chance to put my name in there, but if not it's no big deal cause I just wanted to support the game.

God damn it, WayForward, I asked a million times about getting PSTV compatibility and was met with stonewalling from that stupid bitch, Sorsha, who out and out told me to just ask for a refund.

Now you've got a PSTV version and I've got fucking nothing.

If you're not gonna add more levels, polish the existing ones (haunted mansion feels rushed; dull, empty and ugly backgrounds in all levels after going back to revisit them), add voice-over the rest of the lines, then it's time to start a new projcet/kickstarter for a new game instead.

The game is awesome, and you can notice that a lot of effort have been put in it. Althought I'd like to complain about something, and that's the spanish translation: it's absolutely horrendous. And, as I see it, it's something that a game like this don't deserve. Heck, even The Pirate's Curse was far better translated than this! So please, make the spanish fans even more happier than we are now and fix the translation. Thanks for this incredible game, guys.

Love to hear some Shantae news involving Switch!

I'm almost through the game and it's really, really awesome!
I can't remember having so much fun with a plattformer since I was a kid. The level design is very clever, the art style is cute, funny and even sexy, the music is extraordinarily good (listening to it way too long to get the speed trophys), I love the humour, there is so much to explore... the game just feels really great and it left all those AAAs in my carpet.

I'll spread the word, the game is really great!

I'd also love to see it on the Switch. It would be wonderful to have something other than Breath of the Wild to play on it.

      @Erica

You can check your e-mail or view the code on your backerkit account, the codes went out early december of last year

Wonderful to hear that Half-Genie Hero has been received exceeding well :D

:P I hope the EU/PAL physical copies will be announced soon.

I purchased some retail copies on PS4 for friends. Retail versions on Wii U/PS4/Vita will also get the non-backer exclusive DLC (at a price) yes?

    18. Sean Burton on February 1, 2017

ok here is a problem, BOTH codes I received from backerkit, when used with steam, stated that the game was a beta/early access. I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CODE FOR A RETAIL VERSION OF THE GAME!

    19. Jack Lok on February 1, 2017

It's great to hear this game's doing well. I'm especially looking forward to the future DLC.
Still, I won't be able to get the All-Backers-exclusive stuff because I'm an idiot.

    20. Michael Kohl on February 1, 2017

You guys did great with the game. I loved playing it and might play it again when some dlc hits. The only glitches that I can remember were some graphical ones on the loading screen but it is truly beautiful with a amazing sound track. I'm glad that I backed it to get the music as well.

    21. David Weise on February 1, 2017

Looking forward to the physical rewards, I also appreciated the time taken into letting me know that there would be info about them in this update :)

    22. Steffen Reinke on February 1, 2017

Congrats! You've really earned it. Game is a blast. Special props to the artists, voice actress, mechanics and level designers and programmers!

    23. Mark Arundel Norris on February 1, 2017

Thank you so very much for an awesome game, it was worth the wait. Looking forward to DLCs and Physical rewards.

    24. Micah Chase on February 1, 2017

I hope the patch includes a lockup that would happen on the Counterfeit Mermaids stage. Had it happen several times and if I had to wildly guess maybe there is a memory leak with the circular hooks that you use to get around the stage.

Alright! Still glad I supported this.

    27. Mikko Rasa on February 1, 2017

I played a fair bit with the early access not-demo version. Is it possible to transfer my save to the actual version? Or perhaps they use the same save files so this happens automatically?

    28. SorachiJirachi on February 1, 2017

Will those who got complimentary Steam codes for ordering the PAL Wii U version get the DLC codes for the Steam version as well?

Nice to see you're back. I enjoy(ed) the game a lot, and wouldn't mind going back to it with some extra content, but...

There are two words I'm really willing to see in *any* form of official communication about the game: "translations" and/or "localization". Yes, I found the game super tight everywhere, but the "so bad it's not fun anymore" translations are tanking it.

Francisco Vega on February 1, 2017

Do the new content contain new areas? Should we expect something different than replaying the game with a different character (and of course, abilities)?

    31. Matthew Boychuk on February 1, 2017

Glad to hear it's getting a good reception. I've had a lot of fun with it. Is the Risky mode and the other stretch goal DLC going to be free to everyone or just backers? I know some people holding off on buying the game until they know for sure.

    32. Sander Evers on February 1, 2017

Awesome work guys, and yes, a Nintendo Switch port would be even more awsome :)

    33. felipus on February 1, 2017

I hope you fix the spanish translation because it's awful. And a port to the Nintendo Switch would be perfect. Thanks guys!
