Shantae Cameo & Hypno Baron!

Posted by WayForward (Creator)

Shantae Joins the Cast of Indivisible!

Last week, Skullgirls developer Lab Zero announced the inclusion of Shantae in their newest game, Indivisible! The game looks amazing, and we’re pleased as punch to have Shantae battling alongside Ajna and the rest of this truly inspired cast of heroes! Above you can see an awesome Shantae concept by Lab Zero’ Mariel Cartwright, who you might remember as the animator behind Shantae's Half-Genie Hero move set way back at the start of our campaign!

Today, the Indivisible crowd-funding campaign is only $100,000 away from reaching their goal, and there are only a few days left!

We know there are a bunch of Shantae fans over there helping out, but if you're hearing about the game for the first time, or just want to know more about Shantae’s cameo, please follow the link below and consider helping them out!

Here’s that link!

 Hypno Baron!

This month we’re continuing to work on Chapter 5, which is our haunted locale. We don’t want to give away too much, since we’re dealing mostly with content that appears in the back-half of the game. But with all of the skeletons, spiders, slime girls, and ghosts, you might guess that there’s a sinister force behind the scenes. The Hypno Baron made his debut in Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, and he was nowhere to be found in Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. But he’s back now, and is holding a sizable grudge against our hero! With his powers of hypnotism in full effect, Shantae is going to have a tough time dealing with this powerful foe!

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Finally, here is a first look at the Tinker Factory – a punishing gauntlet of volcanic-themed challenges which will bring Shantae Mode to its conclusion, and just might bring a few players to their knees. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the volcano! At this point in the game, completionists will want to fill out their player arsenal, new players might find help by buying out the store’s inventory, and hard core players will put their hot-dogging mettle on full display by taking the challenge head-on!

We’re not done making the game (there is still a ways to go!), but this Final Chapter will mark the end of the concept art and character design phase! It's been a long road, but we're almost finished with this massive part of of the game development process! Go Team!!

See you next update!!

I had been wondering about backing Indivisible. I have Skull Girls and it's animation is awesome, so I was wondering, I wasn't certain because I don't want to spend too much money, I'M BROKE hahaha. BUTTTTT If Shantae is in, I had no other choice but to back it immediatelly!!! Thankfully InDemand was helpful, now I'm an Indivisible backer =D =D =D

To anyone who wanted to back Indivisible, but weren't able to at the time, the campaign is now InDemand. Which means they will still be accepting backers for about a year or so. Sort of like how HGH was after the Kickstarter was over.

So if you feel like you missed your opportunity, you can still help reach those stretch goals.

Aw mang, I missed the campaign. At least they made it, I'm glad for that much.

OK. This video probably does the best job of demonstrating how Shantae Half Genie Hero's animations are not hand-drawn:…
As Jesus Lopez says in the video they are rigging 2d designs "kinda like 3d". The next question then is why does Austin Ivansmith in his PAX interview say all the animation has been hand-drawn?

@Nick Sanchez - I have to disagree. Animation that has been tweened by a computer is by
definition not hand drawn. I also think you are wrong about the animations having a lot of individually drawn frames. Just go find some gifs of the Half Genie Hero animations and you can very clearly see that a lot of the animation is made up of the same pieces rotated or deformed with few individual hand-drawn frames.

@Atherton My two cents: Tween animation is still hand drawn animation. It just entails a more digital effort. There is nothing dishonest about calling it hand drawn animation. Many of the animation presented thus far have a lot of individually drawn frames. Let's not make a controversy where there is none.

@Atherton - We are still working to make an update about the animation.

Looks like Shantae might finally get a fully hand-drawn animated appearance in a game. It's just a shame that Half-genie hero is using puppet animation instead.

By the way, I never got a response to my question in the October 31st update. Are we still going to get an update on the new animation system any time soon?
It's frustrating because despite using spine Wayforward seems to still be promoting it as hand-drawn animation which is dishonest. It would be nice to see the animation process clarified in detail.

So this means WayForward will be making an enhanced port of this for the Wii U? Because whoever advised Lab Zero to announce their title as a multiplat to literally everything other than the console with all the worthwhile games needs to be fired. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the same person to let LZ get screwed over with Skullgirls and have to crowdfund IDV in the first place.

And in the few hours since this newspost, Indivisible is now funded, so big props to Lab Zero, and to Shantae for now being part of another awesome game!

      @Christopher Cornish
Zubaz is in a few games (going to be in Indivisible as well) and I'm cool with him.
      Same with Mario :)

If Shantae got into Indivisible and Smash Brothers, that would be cool, but I would be concerned about people resenting her for being everywhere, as silly as that sounds.

      @Grim Heaper
The only reason it couldn't get funded on it's OWN merit is because of such negative thinking as that.

And besides, that's a horrible way to think about it. Wayforward came forward and offered Shantae up as a guest character, ALL OF THOSE GREAT INDIE COMPANIES OFFERED IN HELP because they BELIEVED in Lab Zero, they BELIEVED in Indivisible and that it was going to be good, which is more then I can say for a lot of other people.

    14. Sin Volvagia on

I couldn't make up my mind if I should fund Indivisble or not but this seals the deal. Hope the game delivers the way Skull Girls did.

    15. Chaos Sepher on

As someone who has been really become invested in Indivisible as well, I am extremely excited and grateful for Shantae's inclusion in this already wonderful project. Also appreciate you guys giving this shoutout to them on these final days as they are rocketing towards their goal. Shantae and the other guest characters are certainly fun, but I really love all their original characters as well. Plus all the more excited for the day we get Half-Genie hero to play as.

    16. The Grim Heaper on

Guess that's probably the only way it'll get funded, shoving in a bunch of random characters.

Hypno Baron is looking good at the very least, and the levels are very pretty.
