Syria Inside is a black comedy movie - assembling the most tragic stories and the most funny creative productions from Syrian activists and artists out of the revolution of a people against a dictator.
Presented in a new technology "Syrian 3D" and with the typical unique Syrian black humour. You will get an insight to what humans are able to do - both good and bad - that let you see yourself in a different light.
(Malas Twins, our new main actors)
The producers Tamer AlAwam (Syria) and Jan Heilig (Germany) from filmbit filmproduction agreed 2011 to collaborate in a production full of unbelievable hilarious situations and stories from this blackbox: Syria!
In August 2012 Tamer was shot in Alleppo /Syria in the middle of the production. The Syrian webshow-producer Samer Bashas of the FreedomWoBas-Webshow and the German producer decided to finish the project and joined with Sherry Alhayek from Chicago to make this happen. Syrien-European Musicians from Paris and the U.S. came on board. Finally a Syrian comedy webshow duo, the Malas Twins, famous already in the Arab world thanks to facebook, signed to be the main actors and presenters. The show will go on....
(Tamer Alawam shortly before his death)
But the decease of Tamer and the reorganisation of the project brought our ressources to their limit - that's why we ask for your support to help us finish it - still animations are to be payed and replacement film shots to be done. We were targeting the presentation of this film at the Montreal film festival in September 2013, but the challenge is hard, as the deadline is 2 weeks after the end of this Kickstarter campaign. Help us to make it happen.
Risks and challenges
Biggest risk is that some of our main coproducers - like 2d animators, citizen journalists and other creative members inside Syria - still are in life danger.
In between some of them have become refugees in Europe - this is a good example where our money was placed: Buying tickets for our crew members. At the moment we fight to get Visas for our production assistant Firas - he survived four times in torture prison, and now is more or less save in Turkey - but shall come to Berlin soon....What makes us overcome these obstacles: We are behind this with all our heart and our soul.
The film project is driven by several professionals as well as by myself. Having said this we are sure to finish the editing process after we successfully funded the gap that Tamer's death has opened in our budget. Most cost intensive are some of the hand drawn animations and visual effects we need for the story.
The remaining challenges are small compared to those our crew members were facing during the shooting. The film will be presented in Montreal at the international film festival and even if the commitee over there will reject it, our partners in Germany and in the Middle East are well established media companies to bring this film into cinemas all over the world and to TV broadcasters. So there is no risk neither of completition nor broadcasting.
